Report On Funds
For Boy Scouts
Report of the funds contributed to
the work of the Boy Scouts for the
■Central Georgia Council, including 23
counties in the area.
The overall budget approved for
the work in this area is $33,580,06 of
which $4400.90 has .been set as an Ob
jective for the Oconee District.
Mr J. D. Holliman, the chairman
for the advance gifts Committee made
the return of the following amounts
-as of the 6th of November, to wit;
Gordon, s92.S>o. Mclntyre, $53 00
Allentown, $43.50. Toomsboro, $25,
Total $214.00.
Since t^at date Hon. Geo. Henr/
Carswell, chairman for the town of
Irwinton has reported sllß making a
total $332 for the county at this time.

which is free upon request
Mr Penny has given a study
of organization, facilities and
practices of 36 cotton improve
ment groups in Georgia, who
were mostly growers in one va
riety cotton communities He has
also presented market news in
formation, including the Bulletin
Foard method; use of classifica
tion cards; and various features
of the present system of ginning
and marketing cotton.

Kudzu Cultivation
“Kudzu’’ — the forage, soil
improvement, and erosion control
crop of Georgia — has been dis
cussed by Julius M Elrod in Press
Bulletin 575, just released by the
Georgia Experiment Station, Ex
periment, Ga. It is free upon re
quest
Mr. Elrod has suggested land
best suited for planting kudzu,
feitilizers to use, planting stock,
time to plant, cuhvation. and
other other topics of interest to
present kudzu growers and pros
pective growers
New Regulations
for Enlisted Men
Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 14 New regu
lations now provide that former en
listed men of the U- S. Army who
served honorably after Sept. 16, 1940
and who were discharged on or after
May 12, 1945 may be enlisted in the
Enlisted Reserve Corps in the grade
held at time of discharge, provided
they are physically qualified and such
enlistment is effected within six mon
ths from date of discharge or prior to
July 1, 1947, whichever is the later
date Enlistment may be accomplished
at any Army Recruiting Office.

The Georgia Baptist Children’s
Home in response to a great re
quest over South Georgia, an
nounces to all interested people
in this section of the state that
barn and warehouse space is a
vailable for any contributions
sent to the Odum Branch near
Baxley. They announce their
need of corn especially, and of
canned goods of all descriptions
They can also handle a consider
able amount of hay, some sweet
potatoes, and any live stock con
tributed. Mr. and Mrs. D. C
Bussell, local Superintendents of
GED Test for Vets
Another in the series of tests for
veterans of World War 11 will be
held in the Education Bldg., GSCW
on Tuesday, Dec 3, 1946, beginning
at 8:00 am.
These tests, which are given to de
termine if the veterans are elegible
for a high school diploma, aie given by
Dr, Harry A. Little, for the Veterans
Testing Service.
There is a fee of $2.50 for taking
the tests and for their processing
Each man should bring his discharge
or a copy of it for the examiner to see.
No special preparation can be made
for these tests, which cover five fields
1. Correctness of expression, 2. So
cial Science, 3. Natural Science. 4.
Literary Material. 5. Mathematical
ability.
Bring your own pencil.

Reserve Commission

sioned Officers of the Army of
the United States who did not ac
cept appointment in the Officers’
Reserve Corps at time of relief
from active dutv may make ap
plication for a reserve commiss
ion for the highest grade held at
time of relief from active duty,
provided they served honorably,
were not separated for unsatis
factoy service, and provided that
application is made within six
months from date ot relief from
active service or prior to 1 July
1947, whichever is later. Applica
tion forms and complete informa
tion. may be obtained at any
Army Recruiting Office.

Miss Doris Council,
Mr. Hulbert Wed
Against a background of white glad
ioli and chrysanthemums, in the recto
ry of St. Mary’s on the hill, Augusta,
Miss Doris Elizabeth Council of Irwin
ton became the bride of David Paul
Hulbert, of Augusta and Lincoln,Neb.
The marriage was solemnized Friday
evening, Nov. Ist.
The bride was becomingly costumed
in a suit'of gray garberdine with brown
reptile accesories, and a corsage of dou
ble fuschia and lavender orchids. Her
hat of gray felt was feather trimmed.
Miss Carolyn Thomas of Waynesboro
was maid of honor, and J. j. McHugh
was best man.
Following the «eremony an informal
reception was held at the home of Mrs
James B. Barrentineon Milledge Road.
Misses Dorothy Breazeale of Lincoln
ton, Bettie Osborne and Carolyn King,
both of Augusta, assisted in serving.
After the reception the bridal couple
left for the mountains of North Caroli
na. They will reside in Augusta,where
Mr. Hulbert is educational counselor at
Oliver General Hospital.
Mrs. Hulbert is the daughter of W.
L. Council, clerk of the superior court
and Mrs. Council of Irwinton. She iS a
graduate of Georgia S ate College for
Women, Milledgeville, where she r< -
ceived the BS degree. For the past two
years she has been cniiect-d with the
U.S. Employ ment Service in Augusta,
Mr. Hulbert is a graduate of the Un
iversity of Nebraska. He served with
the 30th Infantry Division overseas,
and was wounded in the Battle of St.
Lo. He has the ETO Campaign badge
with bronze battle star and the com
bat infantry badge. When discharged
from the army he held the rank of Cap
tain. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Eu
gene Hulbert, Sr., of Lincoln, Neb.
