Sixth of a Series
Darkness is upon the hill. Three
bodies hang there in uhe night. A
bout the eentral cross are the two Ma
rvs,_ one the Mother of Jesus and
the other Mary.
The mob have gone, feeling their
work was completed. There was a sin
gle sentry left to guard the crosses.
Doom has come down upon those who
could not understand it all. We see
Judas in the flash of lightning as he
walks along, with rope in hand, dur.
ing the great siorm. He had thrown
the silver upon the floor of the T'em
ple, and now is running from the
memory of his deeds to hang himself.
within sight ot the crosses we see the
body of the man swinging by his veck
who betrayed the highest in lifa for a
meager price,
Barrabas and his small son are seen
walking along the foot of the hill.
The boy looking up the hill sees the
three dark cresses and asks his fath
er who they are, '‘Son, two of them
are thieves, the other took my place.”’
And they walk on.
All the disciples save three flee in
to Galilee for fear of their life. These
three go to the upper room and tel}
the lady of the house what had hap
pened. From there Feter goes back to
the sea, while James and John leave
for Emmaus to make further plans.
Their Messiah was crucified on the
cross by a powerful government.
A light is seen in the house of Pil
ate. In the door stands a centurion re
lating a complete account of the day's
happenings. Pilate was happy to hear
that He was dead, but as he closes the :
door his memory of guilt would not '
let him rest. Christ was doomed to
death, and Pilate was doomed to a |
life of restlessness. Caiaphas and An
nas return to the Temple feeling that
this would_be Messiah was done with
and they held an air of victory before
the Sanhedrin, and felt it would be a
cherished memory of the past.
Wherever men met they talked of
the Christ and his movement as being
doomed. It was the cry of the day.
The principles of Christ are relegat
ed to positions of little importance.
Today we find too many men who pro
claim his doom. Man today fills too
many plaees of unrest because he lives
as if the Christ is doomed, He loses
himself in pleasurable indulgence of
the carnal mind, forgetting that there
ig a life immortal. While they cry:
‘Doomed!” can you say with certain
ty: “He lives within my heart?”
