by Rev, Gordon C, King.
LENT
Seventh of a Series
The despair upon the followers of
Christ after he was placed in Joseph's
tomb stands_in our memory as truly a
climax -for it seemed after that event
that Tragedy had been the victor.
The tomb held the representative
of supreme goodness, eternal right
eousneés, and the hope of salvation.
He had been put there by the force
of falsehood, evil and death It wasan
apparent triumph for the forces of
earihly power against these of the
spiritual.
Mary a man lives today as if the
life of Christ ended with the closing
of his earthly life, Pilate was glac to
be rid of him, Caiaphas dismissed Him
from his mind, and the disciples tried
to forget the tragedy of it all. Yet,
the curtain is pulled _back. There is
more to this man. As the Sabbath
begins to dawn Mary Magdelene
comes to the tomb to pay her respect
by placing ointments aud spices on the
body of her dead master But lo! the
stone is rolled away, the tomb is ep
ty! It is not all ended, for here was
an entirely new act with a surprising
new scene and plot. Here is Spirit
ual power against physical power, The
gpiritual vindication is sure. The con
quering force of the Roman Kmyire
with its wide scope.was now trampled
under the foot of Christ representing
the power of The Spirit.
Men of physical force began tn feel
ill at ease, for they were nothing com=
pared to the power of God. Ged still
looks for men with Spiritual strength.
God give us Men. A time like this
demands
Strong minds, great hearts and willing
hands.
Men whom the lust of office cannot
kill
Men whom the spoils of oflice eannot
buy.
Men who have opinions and a will,
Men who have honor. Men who will
not lie,
The strength of a man is in his
Spiritual life, not in his physical pos
sessions..
See you in Church Sunday.
