Seventh of a Series
The story is told that among those
present as Jesus was crucified and
carried away to the tomb was Zachee
us. It is not told, but it must have
been true, that Zacheeus witnessed
with the others the majestic victory of
the Ressurection. Then he knew that
in which he had banked his life was
real and ultimate. He must have said
with real assurance: “I knew He was
the Christ!”
There is a legend in existence that
after St. Peter went to Rome to preach
the gospel of Christ he was persecut
ed without mercy until he finally de
cided to leave the city to escape with
his life. As he made his way along
the dusty road leading out of the city
he saw a vision of the Christ going in
the opposite direction, seeming to be
in a hurry to reach Rome. Stopping,
he called out to the Christ, asking:
“Why do You go into Rome, 0
Christ? They will but take you again
and nail you to a cross. It will not be
safe there!'* Continuing on his way the
Christ shouted in clear tones: “I am
going into Rome to take the place of
one named Peter, who ran away.”
Peter then turned around and has
tened back to face the violent mobs
without fear of what might happen to
him. He was compelled to tell the
story of Hope and Victory,
Do not flee, my brother, let us tell
the the story of Hope and Love iu the
lives we live from day to day.
See you in Church Sunday.
