Miracle Seeds
She rang mv bell -a lovely child,
And as 1 answered, merely smiled.
Then offered gaily piciured seeds,
All meant to fit mv garden needs
“A little late,’’ I Mid, and set
Chose Cosmos, Phlox and Mignonette;
I saw the roses in her checks,
Rare as any gardener seeks,
Soft eyes shining. Heavenly Blue,
That vied with Morning Glory hue;
She counted change and skipt away,
Leaving seeds es hope that day,
Sunshine too- enough to start
A flower garden in my heart.

S 3 ROSE ' GARDEN / CLUB IS
The Rose Garden • lub turned
their regular meeting into a late
afternoon picnic at Culpepper
Park last Tuesday. The members
and thei^families were invited
The picnic supper was served
first, followed by a program pre
pared by Miss Lola Hatfield, the
subject being ‘Birds in a Garden’
Mrs. Fred Everett, Mrs, Ralph
Culpepper, and Mrs George Hoy
told something of their personal
experience with and Miss Lola
told of Mr and Mrs. Redbird who
nested in an arbor vitae at her
front porch, so close, in fact, that
she could reach out from her fav
orite porch chair and touch it.
We consider this as a feather in
her cap. as red birds rarely have
so much faith in human beings.

Frecjcent hand washing by the
children serve* m a good precaution
against contagion — particularly
when the hands are scrubbed thor
oughly — and to this end Katherine
Potter of Procter & Gamble advises
the uoe of a gentle, abrasive, special
action soap like Lava. Since children
are apt to whisk through washing
motions haphazardly, they’ll need a
fast, thoroughly cleansing soap that
can do the job in a matter of seconds.
Suggestions from National
Foundation for Infantile Paralysis
A series of preventive suggestions
is offered by the National Founda
tion for Infantile Paralysis. They
stress frequent washing of the hands,
plenty of rest, avoiding crowds, un
necessary trips and extreme temper
ature changes. They also emphasize
avoiding panic, when trouble is sus
pected. Rather, summon a physician
immediately.
In emphasizing the need for fre
quent hand washing, the Foundation
urges special attention before meals,
after the toilet, and whenever hands
have become soiled by oral or nasal
discharge.
This training may pay dividends
of many happy healthy hours of play
for the child — as well as peace of.
mind for the parents.
