* / NEW YORK—For the first time'
in pressure cooker history, a pres-j;
sure cooker won the grand prize
in National Home Safety Awards!
after passing the most severe tests 1
by three independent laboratories. 1
t To a Chicago firm, Ekco Products
Co., went the coveted safety award
for its Ekconomic low-pressure
cooker-sterilizer. The model above
holds the winning cooker, which
was found safest because of the new
low-pressure of only 3% pounds for
most everyday cooking, instead of
the high pressure of 10 and 45
pounds formerly used. “ * /
Other features that helped gain'
the winning award are a fool-proof, 1
interlocking handle, with a positive
safety position to prevent opening
the cooker until the pressure is
down to almost half a pound and as
[simple pressure-control “checker.”.
Highlighting the features of the
new utensil was its ability to safely;
sterilize baby formula feedings!
quickly. Compulsory by law for state '
hospitals in New York and Kansas 1 '
and widely recommended by public
health officials, it cooks and steri-!
lizes the formula sterilizing the
bottles, "caps and nipples at the
same time in one simple operation,!
