UNIVERSITY BOUND—Eight youthful craftsmen
were awarded university scholarships valued at $20,000
at the annual banquet of the Fisher Body Craftsman’s
Guild in Detroit’s Book-Cadillac Hotel. Ranging in
value from SI,OOO to s4^ooo each, the awards were given
for proficiency in design and construction of minia
ture model automobiles entered in the 20th annual

Mrs. John Wesley Hooks died at
her residence in Gordon Sunday
afternoon after a lingering ill
ness.
Mrs. Hooks was born in Gordon,
the daughter of King Sanders
and Mrs. Bethany Sanders, and
had made her home there mcst
of her life. She was a member of
the Gordon Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Daugh
ters of 1812, the Daughters of
American Revolution and of the
United Daughters of the Confed
eracy. She organized and served '
as the first president of the Gor
don chapter of each of these
groups. She was founder of the
Sanders Family Association
which meets yearly at the histor
ic Ramah Church near Gordon.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. G.
S, Powell, Gordon; two brothers,
D. F. Sanders, Houston, Texas;
Dr. J. W. Sanders, Barnesville;
seven nieces and eight nephews.

science degree at Georgia Teach
ers College and will enroll in the

4-H COUNTY FAIR I
The annual 4-H Club County
Fair will be held this year Oct.
9 to 14 inclusive, with Murray
& Wallace shows booked for the
Midway.
The exhibits should be good if
not better than usual this year.
It is hoped that every farmer
will take an active part in this
show so that the people of this
county can say with pride that
w r e had a county fair in 1950.
Each school is to put on an edu
cational exhibit and cash awards
will go to those judged, best.
The Carnival will feature a Free
act. and there’ll be door prizes
