Low Cost Insurance
Available for
SCHOOL CHILDREN
A Group Accident Insurance Plan
under which every eiroUed child in
the Wilkinson Coumy System will
be covered with accident insurance,
will go into effect at the beginning of
the school year.
John W. Miller, Superintendent of
Wilkinson County Schools, reported
the action today. Mr. Miller said that
while the Board of Education and the
schools themselves have no legal lia
bility in case of accident or injuries io
children in the performance of their
normal school duties, it has always
been a matter of serious concern io
the school people when children were
injured and had to be taken to the
hospital when they knew the parents
were unable to pay the bills. He said
this type of coverage will relieve that
kind of situation greatly and will as
sure every school child in this county
adequate medical attention in case
any accident occurs to him in connec
tion with anv wf his school life. It has
been the desire lor many years among
both teachers and parents that some
plan of coverage might be toumi to
provide assistance in payment of med
ical or hospital expense for such in
juries.
Since the cost of accident insurance
is higher than the average family Eels
it can afford, very few children hays
the benefit of such coverage, Mr. Mil
ler said. However, through this new
Group School Child Accident Plan,
at a contribution of only 81 00 per
child per year; ail school children in
the countv unit cm be. adequately pro
vided with accident coverage during
the school dav.
The plan has been discussed with
a number of parents all of whom are
enthusiastic in praise of the action At
a recent meeting of principles it was
decided, with the assistance of par
ents, to undertake this program of
protection for the children.
