The Rose Garden Clab held
the October meeting at the home
of Mrs, N. H. Bacon Tuesday
night with Mrs. Walter Adkins
as co-hostess. The president, Mrs
Ralph Culpepper Sr., epened the'.
meeting and read a poem about
October.
After the business session Miss
Nannette Hancock gave a demon
strationon ma king corsages,
which the members greatly ap
preciated. It was astonishing to _
See what can be done with a bit
of ribbon, wire, florist’s tape and
a blossom or two. All in the
twinkling of an eye! L
The program this month was
on Indoor Gardens and was giv
en by Mrs. George Hoy assjsted
by Mrs. E. C. Byington. After
the reading of two papers the
program ended in an informal
discussion of ' Saint Paulias,”’
better known as African Violets.
In the contest which followed
Mrs. Irwin Everett was winner.
Some beautiful flower arrange
ments were displayed.
The Irwinton Serap Book that
Mr. Petty made for the Georgia
Power Company’s Home Town
Contest last year was shown and
very much admired.

brings champions from 150 Am rican cities to race
for a $5,000 college scholarship and the national title
at Akron, 0., was embellished this year by a match
race between Jimmy Stewart, film star; Jack Demp
sey, former prize ring champion, and Wilbur Shaw,
three-time Indianapolis “500” winner. Dempsey in
his “One-Punch Special” brought the crowd of
Official Organ Irwinton, Wilkinson County, (‘eorgia.
There was a hint of Hallow

ery country in the world has
some kind of regulation dealing
with shipment of goods to their
borders. For example, if goods
sent to Austria are valued above
a certain amount the recipient
must get approval of the Aus
trian National Bank. Canada will
not permit the entry of any liquor
into that country and Denmark
has a ban on matches.

who is playing the role of twelve
year old Georgia girl in the new
Broadway play, ‘‘The Member
of the Wedding'’ written by Car
son McCullers, a former Geor
gian. The actress is Julie Harris
The other recipe is for coffee
mousse and was sent to Georgia
homemaking teachers by Ambas.

‘Friday nite, last, we disregarded
all the jinxes of the much feared
ard notorious 13th, and sojourned
over to ‘“‘Jonesco’’ for the reg
ular monthly meeting of 6th Dis.

were already busy when we arr
ived so we strolled down to the
lake and enjoyed it’s beauty and
the scenery about the well - kept
golf greens, all of which is a very
beautitul and lasting memorial to
our late and much maligned and
