John D. Lawrence, prominent
young Eatonton attorney and na
tive of this county announced
this week that he will seek elect
ion as solicitor_general of the Oc
mulgee Judicial Circuit in the
State Democratic Primary to suc
ceed C. S Baldwin, present solic
itor, whois retiring. The Ocmul
gee Circuit is composed of Wilk
inson, Baldwin, Greene, Han
cock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan and
Putnam counties.
Mr. Lawrence, who was born
in Wilkinson County is the son
of the late Rev and Mrs. J. Law
son Lawrence of this county. His
father was a Baptist minister
here and was Wilkinson county
school superintendent at the time
of his death. Following his par
ents death, Mr. Lawrence moved
to Putpam County, where he
made his home with the late Mi
nor G Phillips and his Aunt, the
present Mrs. C. S. Brown.
He has been serving as Put
nam county tax collector for the
last four years and has practiced
law in Eatonton six years.
Attending public schools in
Jones and Putnam counties, he
graduated from Eatonton High
School and won a 4-H Club scliol
arship to the Uaiversity of Geor
gia. He received muny honors
climaxing them with member
ship in Sphinx, the highest non
ccholastic honor the University
confers on boys. While there he
served as president of the non
fraternity boys. president of the
senior class and president of his
law class. He was graduated from
the University with both a B 8.
in Agricultureand an LLLB in law
He is a veteran of World War 11
and a past post commander of
the American Legion.
Mr. Lawrence taught school
at Georgia Military College in
Milledgeville for a year. Heis
married and he and his wife
have two children. An actiye
member of the Eatonton Baptist
Church, Mr. Lawrence is at pres
ent serving as Sunday School
superintendent He is vice-pres
ident of the Eatonton Kiwanis
Club, a Mason, past scoutmaster
of the local Boy Scout troop, and
was chairman for the Crusade
for Freedom in Putnam County.

In. the presevce of relatives and a
few close friends, Mrs. Marjorie Lee,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs Eric E. Mil
ler of Gordon, became the bride of
Nathaniel Hunter Bacon Jr., son of
Mr, and Mrs. Natbaniel Hanter Bacon
of Irwinton, in a ceremony at the
home of the bride’s parents on Satur
day, February 2,
The Rev. Harvey Roughton of San:
dersviile performed the ceremony at
an altar formed by white gladieli,
palms and cathedral candlelabra held=
ing white tapers.
Mrs. T. F, Dupree, sigter of the bride
was pianist, and Edison Harbin of
Dublin, soloist, The tapers were light
¢d by Johouye Ann and Elaine Lee,
daughters of the bride. '
The groom had, as his best man,
Walter McCrary of Jeffersonville.
~ Mrs Sidney Miller, sister-in law
of the bride, matron of honor, wore a
spring suit of navy faille with scft
lines and a full skirt. Her corsage was
of pink rese buds.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a suit of gold wooi and
her corsage was a purple orchid.
A reception followed the ceremony,
after ' which the couple left for a trip
to North Carolina- They wiil make
their home in Gordon.

The heuarts of his many friends
throughout the county were sad
dened by the sudden passing of
Joel Waters Wednesday at his
home in Irwinton.
Funeral services were held at
Friendship church at 3:00 p.m
Thursday, with burial in the Ma
sonic cemetery, Irwinton.
Surviving are his wife, the for

ers, Gordon; six sisters, Mrs. A.
J. Massengale, Kastman; Mrs G
W. Hatfield, Dublin; Mrs. Willie
Dixon, Warner Robins; Mrs. 1. C

senior at Miller High and also a
member of EMD Club. They are
continuing studies at Peabody
and GMC in Milledgeville.
WCTU MEETINGS
The W.C.T.U. will meet at the
