This issue of The Bulletin car
ries the announcement of John C
Lewis, prominent attorney of
Sparta, for the office of Solicitor
General of the Ocmulgee Circuit
to succeed Carter S. Baldwin
who is retiring at the expiration
of his present term. The Ocmul
gee circuit is composed of V ilk
inson, Baldwin, Hancock Greene
Morgan, Jasper, Putman, aud
Jones counties.
Mr. Lewis was born in Han
cock ( ounty and has lived there
all of his life. He was educated
in the Sparta public school sys
tem and is a graduate of Mercer
University from which institu
tion he received both his literary
and law degree.
He served for six years as Sec
cetary of the House Naval Affairs
Committee in V ashington under
Congressman Carl Vinson He
was Director of the State Hospi
tal Authority that gave to the
Milledgeville State Hospital an
expanded building program and
greatly improved conditions.
Mr. Lewis has practiced law
for more than 30 years. ( During
that time he has served as Spar
ta City Attorney and as Attorney
for Hancock County. He h^s had
varied experience in both the
State and Federal courts as well
as the Appellate courts of Geor
gia.
He has been a member and
Chairman of the Hancock Coun
ty Democratic Executive Commi
tee and for more than 25 years
he has been a member of Carl
Vinson’s Congressional District
Committee. He has been a mem
ber of the State Democratic Ex
ecutive Committee for more than
12 years. He has served in the
Georgia legislature for 20 years.

The new home of Carl E. Collins
on Route 2, about 10 miles from Ir
winton was destroyed bv fire Satur
day. Mr Collins's son-in law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Dean
of Toomsboro, were both burned and
were taken to a hospital for treatmerft
The cause of the fire is said to have
been the explosion of. a can of kero
sene.
Mr. Fred Frink of Miami. Fla. was
the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hal]
Tuesday-
Mr and Mrs. Glenn Asbeil and Miss
Glenn Ann Asbeil visited Mr. and
Mrs. B. B Ashell last weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Petty spent Sun
day with homefolks.
Mrs Anna Thompson came home
from Jefferson, Ga. in time to vote.
Col and Mrs Frank Dixon. Miss Nan
Wood and Miss Julia Todd were at
home, returning to Atlanta Wednes
day.
Mrs Elmo Davis is in Atlanta this
week. Elmo underwent an operation
Tuesday at Lawshn General Hospital.
Mrs. Rabon Waller is happv over
her new position with the P.M.A.
Jack Lee of Macon was among those
present on election dav.
Mrs John Todd was in Macon
Tuesday.
Mrs. Bill Bentlev of Mclntyre is a
patient at Richard Binion Clinic.
Mr. and Mrs Will Campbell, Mr.
and Mrs. Lawrence Tuggle and their
children. Sue Ellen and Philip, who
have been guests of the J. R. Mitch
ells, left Tuesday for their homes in
Ridgeway, Mo.
The WS 1W met with Mrs J.
H. Skelton Monday afternoon.

MRS SAMUEL N- RUBIN
Funeral services for Mrs. Sam
uel N Rubin of Gordon, whose
death occurred in a local hospital
early Monday, were held in the
chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at 2
p m Tuesday. Rabbi ( harles M.
Rubel officiated and burial was
in the Sherah Israel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mark
( ohen, Elliott Cohen, Harold Co
hen, Dr. sol Rubin, Sidney Hor
witz, and Harvev Cohen.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr-
George DuPree John W. Scott,
John Boyd Butts, Jake Isenberg,
Robert Zark, Ben Goldgar, Ben
Goldman. H. Marshall Harry
Schartz and Sidney Backer.
Mrs. Rubin was born in Atlan
ta and had lived in Macon for a
number jof years before moving
to Gordon 14 years ago.

Funeral services were held for
Luther Holland at Liberty Chur
ch at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The pas
tor, Rev. L E Newton officiated
and burial was in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Holland died suddenly of a
heart attack. He is survived by
his wife; a son. L E. Holland;
and two daughters,
PATRICK C- WALDEN
Funeral services for Patrick C.
Walden, 50. retired Navy petty
officer, were held Sunday p m. at
the Mclntyre Baptist Church.
Full military honors were held
at a graveside service and an
honorary escort was provided by
the American Legion. Walden
died Friday night at a Dublin
ho c pital.
He is survived by two brothers
John Walden. NLcon and Henry
Walden, Mclntyre; sisters, Mrs.
W. E Boyer. Milledgeville, Mrs.
Clarence Massengale, Gordon,
Mrs G. F Dean, Mclntyre, and
Mrs F. W. Patterson, Macon.
