Asbell will celebrate her birth
day with a reunion of her five
sons, two daughters and their
families at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. Finney in Gordon. We

Shower For Mrs. Ebroin Everett
A dainty white parasol, the
right size for a fairy queen, but
which would not have afforded
much protection in a shower of
rain, was the attractive center
piece on the dining table when
Mrs J. H. Shepherd entertained
for Mrs. Edwin Everett at a Bri
dal Shower Friday afternoon.
The Shepherd home was beau
tifully decorated with spring
flowers, the artistic arrange
ments by Mrs A. K. Mathis be
ing especially admired.
Mrs. Victor Davidson and Mrs.
Joe Skelton “ welcomed the com
ing guests.” Receiving with Mrs
Shepherd were the guest of hon

and Mrs. Gamble, the bride’s
mother and grandmother, both
of Fort Gaines.
Miss Peggy Beck kept the
Bride’s Book. Misses Clara Beall
and Winifred Council served
punch, and Mrs. VY alter Adkins,
Mrs. George L. Smith, Mrs B. B.
Asbell, and Miss Polly Bell also
assisted in entertaining. Two lit
tle girls in blue, (Faye and Dana)
passed the doilies.
Mrs. Ralph Culpepper Sr. and
Mrs. Ralph Culpepper Jr. gave a
program of songs.
The bride received many love
ly gifts. '
Delicious refreshments were
served.
BASKETBALL BANQUET
The Irwinton High School Bas
ketball Teams were honor guests
at a banquet given in the school
lunch room Monday night.
The invitations were issued by
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ford and
Friends of the basketball teams
to the girls and boys of the teams
the members of the faculty, the
trustees and their wives, as Well
as the superintendents and the
coaches and their wives of Irwin
ton, Gordon and Toomsboro High
schools and to County school su
perintendent, John W. Miller and
Mrs. Miller.
There were 116 seated quests
besides a number of people who
assisted in serving.

Funeral services for Grover C.
Massengale, 60, were held Wed
nesday morning at the Gordon
Baptist Church with the Rev. P.
M. Underwood and Rev. L. F.
Linder officiating. Mr. Massen
gale died Monday at his home in
Gordon.
Survivors include his wife;
four sons, E L. and H. L. of Gor
don, Luther of Apex, S. C , and
G. B. of Macon; two daughters,
Mrs. H S. Sanders of Gordon,
Mrs. J. L. Mixon of Dry Branch;
two sisters, Mrs Will Chambers
of Gordon and Mrs J. W. Martin
of Milledgeville; nine grandchild

Miss Marion King
Cooking School On April 8
Miss Marion King will conduct
a cooking school here on Tuesday
April 8, under the sponsorship of
the Rose Garden Club. Plans for
the school were announced today
by Mrs. R W. Culpepper, Sr.,
president, and Mrs. W. L. Coun
cil, local cooking school chairman
The school will be held at the
Irwinton High School Auditorium
and will begin at 2:30 p.m. There
will be an admission charge of
50 cents. Several attractive door
prizes will be awarded.
Miss King, a native of Sylacau
ga, Miss., received her early edu
cation in the public schools of
Kosciusko. Miss In 1946 she was
graduated from the University
of Mississippi with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in home economics.
Prior to joining the. Georgia Pow
er Company in 1951, she was em
ployed by Saks Fifth Avenue in
Chicago and as a home econo
mist by Chapman and Wilhelm,
N. C
She is a member of the Busi
ness section of the American
Home Economics Association and
of the Atlanta Residence Light
ing Forum.

C.S to the South Georgia Confer
ence which met at the Cherokee
Heights Methodist Church, Ma
con. Wednesday and continued
through the week.
