Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Council
announce the engagement of
their daughter. Miss Winifred
Council to John Roscoe Mitchell
Jr., son of Mr. and' Mrs. J. R.
Mitchell of Irwinton. The mar
riage will be solemnized in June.
The bride-elect attended Geor
gia State College for Women and
will graduate from the Universi
ty of Georgia in June with a B.S.
in education. She is a member of
Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She
completed her studies in March
and is now a member of the fac
ulty of Irwinton High School.
Mr. Mitchell, after finishing
high school served for 22 months
in the Navy. He attended the
University of Georgia and is now
a producer for Georgia Timber
land Inc.
CHARGE WIDE REVIVAL
APRIL 19 - 25
This Campaign will open with
a Charge-Wide Rally at Tooms
boro, Saturday, April 19. The
Young People will meet at 6:30
P. M. for picnic lunch, fellow
ship and recreation. Worship ser
vices for all at 8 p m.
Services will be held in all the
churches at 11 am. and 8 p.m.
on Sunday and at 8 p.m. each day
during the week. Charge-Wide
services will be held at 11 a. m.
each day during week at the fol
lowing churches:
Irwinton —Monday, Salem —Tues
day, Poplar Springs —Wednesday
Toomsboro—Thursday, Irwinton
—Friday,

County Commissioner of Bethel and'
Ramah Districts and appeal to you for
your support in the forthcoming Dem
ocratic Primary of May 14, 1952.
I was born and ncred in Gordon;
attended Gordon HLh School: joined
Clear Creek Baptist Church at the age
of 16, En’is ed in the U. S Navy in
Sept. 1922. Saw continuous service
until May 19 16. Was in Pacific Fhe
atie during World War 11, At the out
break of hostilities. Dec. 7, 1941, I
was in Manila. Saw service in Dutch
East Indies. Australia, New Guinea.
Solomon Islands and was back in Su
bic Bay, Philippines, during Japanese
Surrender period, "as placed on in
active duty May 1946.
I worked from June 1946 to Mav
1950 in supervisory capacity as ma
chinist at U S Navy sdpvaids, Long
Beach, Calif. I returned to Georgia in
August, 1950, to establish mv perma
nent residence in Gordon Am now
serving my community as vice com
mander of American Legion Post 101
and as councilman of Gordon.
Incidently, my wife, formerly £il_
lean O’Sullivan S'ickman, was a civ
ilian internee on the Island of Luzon
during the Japanese Occupation from
December 1941 to February 1945.
If elected your Commissioner I will
endeavor to serve the people of iL
kinson County to the very best of my
ability.
