ELECTIONS will be held in each of
Wilkinson County’s 5 farm commun
ities September 17th, 1952.
Farmers in each community will vote
for 3 farmers to serve on the commun
ity committee, for a delegate to the
county convention to elect the county
PMA committee for 1953, and for al
ternates. Voting will be by balloting
at polling places, namely: Bethel and
Ramah at Ramah Courthouse,. Lords
and Passmore at Lords Courthouse,
Turkey Creek and Griffin at Turkey
Creek Courthouse, Irwinton and High
Hill at Irwinton Courthouse, and Blo
odworth and Ivy at Bloodworth Court
house, ballots may also be cast in the
county PMA office anytime during
the two-week period prior to election
day. In general, any farmer is eligible
to vote if he as owner, operator, ten
ant, or sharecropper is participating or
is carrying out practices in accord
with programs administered by the
county PMA committee.
The concentration of Agriculture
Conservation Program operations in
1953 on the problems of individual
farms adds to the need for adie comm
itteemen. Committeemen will be ex
pected to help each farmer in deter
minirg the conservation needs on his
farm and in making the most effective
use of A C P assistance and available
services in carrying out most needed
practices. Since this program has to
•do with the protection and improve
ment of soil and water conservation on
farms of Wilkinson county, commun
ity committeemen are in a key posit
ion in the fight for continued product
ion. The chairman urges farmers in
each community to look over the
field carefully and make sure farmers
are elected who are best qualified and
have the time to devote to the jod.

we asked her. for if he had been
his only treatment would have
been a booster shot. Yots see, the
tripple vaccine insures protection
not only against whooping cough
and diptheria, but lockjaw, (tet
anus) as well.
I wish every child in Wilkin
son County was immunized with
the tripple vaccine. Then it would
not be necessary for youngsters
with puncture wounds, like this
one, to take the anti - lockjaw
treatment which in itself is not
pleasant. Os course, we had to
refer this mother to her family
physician.
This afternoon we have talked
with 9 expectant mothers. We
gave them some of the wonder
ful pamphlets and material we
have available on prenatal and
baby care and encouraged them
to do just as their doctor says be
fore and after the baby arrives.
Hardly had they left when a
young father came in to inquire
about making application for the
Crippled Children’s service. Be
fore he left we had a phone re
quest to show a health movie to
a group of interested individuals.
And just before we began to
write this a food handler came in
for a health card, which is a sub
ject we want to write on, later-
So you can see, we really have
an excuse for not writing a col
umn this week, but promise to
have one next week.

W COUNTY SEAT, DONALSONVILLE
।
Though one of Georgia’s youngest counties, the Seminole
area has a long and colorful history. _ From this area
Andrew Jackson launched his campaign into Florida
against the Seminole in 1818 and nearly involved the
United States in war with Spain and Great Britain. Today
Seminole invites the hunter with plentiful game—espec
ially deer, foxes, and quail. Chief sources of income are
agriculture, lumber, naval stores and a rapidly growing II
Hereford cattle industry. Two of the state’s largest pea
nut shelters, as well as a cannery, sausage-packing plant
and creosoting plant are operated in the county seat.
In this and other Georgia counties, the United States
Brewers Foundation works constantly to maintain whole
some conditions where beer and ate are sold. Close at
tention is given areas near camps of the Armed Forces, and
beth military officials and Georgia law enforcement officers
have commended the Foundation’s self-regulation pro
gram. Retailer educational meetings offer sound sugges
tions for continued operation in the community’s interest.
