Toomsboro Topics
The WSCS met Tuesday after
noon at the Church with a good
attendance. The Society mem
bers are studying the Bible and
discussed the first five Books,
with each member taking part.
After the meeting the mem
bers went to Irwinton where they
presented a Thanksgiving pound
ing to the pastor, the Rev. For
rest E. Ltnderand Mrs. Linder.
Mr. Tommy E. Walden is in a
serious condition at the Macon
Hospital, where he was carried
after a wreck that occurred near
Macon Saturday night. His many
friends are wishing a speedy re
covery for him.
Thanksgiving will bring num
bers of our young people home
for the holiday. There will be a
few who will be unable to get
home but thoughts and prayers
will reach out to them, from home
where ever they might be.
Toomsboro was saddened re
cently by the passing of two
friends, both having reached a
ripe age and spent much time
here. They were Mr. Gus Wat
kins, who was buried in the fam
ily cemetery at Salem Church;
and Mr. Frank Cobb, who passed
away in Palatka. Fla was buried
there.
Sympathy goes out to the Wat
kins family and Mrs. Cobb from
their many friends here.
Some of our ladies had the
pleasure of attending the pro
gram Monday sponsored by the
Irwinton Rose Garden Club.
They presented Mrs. John Nowell
of Macon. With the Technicolor
pictures Mrs George Smith re
cently showed at a Home Demon
stration Club meeting in our
town, and the groups of women
attending the Irwinton, as well
the Dorothy Biddle Flower Ar
rangement Program in Milledge
ville,- there should be some beau
tiful doors and inside decorations
in Toomboro Christmas.

Kose barton Club
The lecture on Thanksgiving
and Christmas Decorations, spon
sored ‘by the Rose Garden Club,
was given by Mrs. John Nowell,
of Macon, to a large and appre
ciative audience at the School
Auditorium Monday afternoon.
Club members were elated over
the success of the affair and are
encouraged to make more ven
tures in the future. Mrs. J H.
Skelton, Mrs A. K. Mathis and
our President, Mrs. Ralph Cul
pepper are to be especially com
mended for their good work in
putting it across. $75.00 for tick
ets sold was the last report.
When we learned that we had
visitors from Milledgeville, San
dersville, Jeffersonville, Danville-
Gordon, Toomsboro and Mclntyre •
we were, frankly, astonished;
but after hearing Mrs. Nowell,
and watching her work, we be
gan to understand. These people
who came from other towns, ev
en from outside the county, had
heard Mrs. Nowell before, and
they would not miss this op
portunity of hearing her again.
Strange, - it was not anything
she said, in her little preach
ments, that converted us to her
doctrine, but we envied the very
evident joy she takes in her work
of taking common, ordinary ob
jects that have no beauty to the ,
untrained eye. ana composing
them into something as lovely as
a dream; and the thrills which
are her daily portion, in seeing
beauty wherever she looks. It
does seem d pity that the God of
Love has surrounded and envel
oped us in beauty which our eyes
never see. We don’t realize it
but we are not fully alive, not
having the full use of our senses
of sight nor sound, nor of that
divine sixth sense which Helen
Keller developed to the Nth de
gree.
Remember this from Brown
ing’s musician, Abt Vogler:
“And I know not save in tins,
Such gift be allowed to man,
That our. of three sounds be frame,
Not a fourth sound, but a star!
Consider it well: each t<me
Os our scale in itself is naught;
It is everywhere in the world,
--Loud, soft, and all is said;
Give it to me to usei
I mix it with two in my thought:
And there! Ye have heard and seen.
Consider and bow the head.
