HAPPINESS IS A HABIT - CULTIVATE IT
Irwinton. Wilkinson County, Georgia.
Street of Irwinton
By Mary Tigner Hoy
The following verses by Glenn
Asbell will appear soon in the
Albany paper. They bring back
memories familiar to all of us.
MEMORY’S HOME
So imbedded in my mind that nought
can erase it,
The fairest vision a child ever knew,
So viyidly pictured time cannot
efface it,
Or cause it ever to fade from my view;
The chair, the stool and the churn
that set by it,
The old, blackened boiler convenient
ly near,
The sweetest of memories, to explain
I will try it.--
Os the old-fashioned fire-place I recall
and revere
The old-fashioned fire-place, the big,
spacious, fire-place,
The old, whitewashed fire-place,
That memory holds dear.
The old-fashioned fire place and the
Flames glowing o’er it,
The homemade andirons and the
red hued logs,
The stockings that hung from the
mantle before it,
And there by the side the smutty
fire claws.
Reflecting on the faces of those who
surround it
Contentment and happiness written
so clear,
And peace so complete that no sor-
1 rows confound it;
Oh, those precious dreams that spon
taniously appear!
The oldfashioned fire-place, the big,
spacious fire-place.
The old whitewashed fire-place
That memory holds dear.
How well I remember the the exten
ded table,
All heaped with its viand^ so rich and
so rare,
The turkey, the pig, which recalls
Lamb’s fable,
The mince pies, the fruits that my
mother placed there;
Then back to the scene with hearts
All a-glowing
With happiness, laughter and never
a car?.
Love’s gilts awaiting, O rapture over
rlowing!
In this memory home, tne home of
good cheer,
Refrain.
