joint meeting February 2, 1954
in the school auditorium.
Sue Jackson gave the devo
tional Carol F^dy. Kay Hatcher
and Lvnn T^fpenter. who were
delegates to the Youth Assem
bly, gave a report on what hap
pened at the Assembly.
Discussion and further plans
were made for the Church pro
gram which was held at 6:30
Sunday. Feb 7, 1954, at Ivey
Church. The News Bulletin was
reviewed by Carol Eady.
News of Gordon
Mr and Mrs H. 0. Goggans
and sons. Bobby and Donald,
spent the weekend in Augusta
with Mr. Goggans parents.
Mrs. C. A. Smith of Savannah
is spending sometime at her
home in Gordon. Hope she is
feeling fine after being in the
hospital a few days.
The many friends of Mrs. Mel
vin Dennis will he glad to hea r
that she is very much improved
and has returned home from the
Macon Hospital. We wish for her
a speedy recovery.
Miss Gloria Jones and John
Dennis of North Georgia College
spent the weekend with their

the First Baptist Church held its
February meeting at the home
of Mrs T. J. Finnev with Mrs.
R H Carswell, cc-hostess. An
interesting program was presen
ted by Mrs. I. P. Holliman. The
business session was presided ov
er by Mrs. Roy Kingery She re
signed as president of the class,
and Miss Hazel Ie Powell was
elected in her place.
A delightful social hour follow
ed the meeting.
HENRY L BRANAN
Funeral services for Henry L.
Branan, retired sawmill operator
who died in a Macon hospital
Sunday, were held at Hart’s Mor
tuary chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The Rev. T. M Bailey will offi
ciate and burial will be in Snow
Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ralph Branan
Arthur Branan. Guy Branan. Wil
fred Bateman. Abner Lockhart
and Uiian Carr
Mr. Branan was born in Wilk
inson County, the son of Forsyth
Branan and Mrs. Carrie Brewer
Branan and had lived in Macon
for 20 years, moving from Gor
don He was a member of the
Gordon Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons F. L.
and W. S. Branan, both of Ma
con and H. F. Branan of Lznge
horne, Pa., and seyen grandchil
dren.
JOSEPH A- CRISWELL
Joseph Allen Criswell, 70. died
Monday afternoon at a Milledge
ville hospital and funeral servic
es were conducted Tuesday at
Mt. Uarmel with Joe A Moore
officiating.
Mr. Criswell was employed by
Gordon Clays before his retire
ment.

Intyre is his son, and Mrs. Exie
Snow and Ivey C. Snow, also of
Mclntyre, are his sister and bro
ther.

Sgt. Clayton Whistler from
Minnesota and Sgt. Ralph Greer
from Kentucky were weekend
guests of the J. R. Mitchells Sr.
Their Sunday visitors were Mr.
and Mrs. Clyde Taylor and two
little sons of Macon.
