We are happy to report that
Mrs. V\ ilbur ( ouncil, who has
been very ill at the Richard Bin
ion Clinic, Milledgeville, is feel
ing much better and will be home
soon.
Mrs. Hugh Palmer has been
quite ill at a Macon hospital.
Mrs. Roy Burgamy and her
little son are at home.
Mr H. T Morris of Mclntyre
is recovering from an illness.
Mrs. ( 'lint Sims underwent a
serious operation at Binion’s and
said to be doing fine.
Sorry to hear that our friend,
Mr Tom Porter, has been on the
sick list for about two weeks.
Wade Claxton has returned
from a business trip to New
York
Mrs. and Mrs. Ralph r ulpepper
Jr. and son Rruce are enjoying a
trip to Florida this week.

atives in Eatonton.
Mrs. Rosa Lindsey attended a
postmasters meeting in Albany
Monday.
Mr. Mrs. B. B. Asbell and Don
were also in Albany visiting the
Glenn Asbells last weekend.
HOME TOWN CONTEST
A total of 284 Georgia towns,
(including Irwinton) have enter
ed the 1954 Champion Home
Town Contest, it was announced
by Harlee Branch Jr . president
of the Georgia Power Company.
These towns will compete for
cash prizes totaling $,950 which
will be a warded to the towns
showing the most community im
provement during the contest
period, from Oct. 1, 1953 to Oct.
1, 1954.
In addition to the regular con
test, which will be the same as
in past years, there will be a
special “sweepstakes” competi
tion for all first prize winners in
this contest. The sweepstakes
winner will receive SI,OOO.
First prize winners last year
were Manchester, Cleveland, and
Monticello.

IRWINTON GIRLS WIN
Miledgeville, Feb. 20 — Irwinton
High, not even a winner in its division
tournament, refused to biw to defeat
here last night in the finals of the 6—
3 girls championship, and came off
with a hard-earned 38 to 36 victory
over Laurens High (Rentz) before a
large crowd.
In winning its 6-C championship,
although they have gone to the finals
many times Irwinton took the lead
in the final three minutes of play and
refused to fold under the pressure of
Laurens High six, Laurens replaces
Cedar Grove aa 6-C girls’ champion.
Cedar (Trove high was merged with
Rentz High this year to make Laur
ens High.
Phvllis Shepherd paced the losers
with 20 points, while Sue Bell, with
19, and Jackie Walker with 15, were
the shining lights for the new champ
ion.

turned to the Bethany Home in

going down to celebrate grand

with Mr. Mrs. R. A. Caldwell.

son, W. J. Hl of Douglasville,
spent the past week wuh Mr. and
Mrs. Pitt Jackson.
Lt. l ommander Tom Chambers
brought his attractive wile to
town Sunday and calling on old
friends. They also visited Mrs.
George Everett in irwiiiton. He
is now stationed in Athens.
Mr. Hugh Goruon of Daytona,
Fla. had supper Friday night
with his aunt. Mrs. Mattie Mer
cer and Dr. and mrs. Ware.
Mr. Mrs. H. E. Stephens spent
the past week in Florida with
daughter, Martha and family.
Clyde m e r c e r is in Binion’s
Clinic. Freeman Ezelle also is in
the hospital convalesing from an
operation. We hope these two are
much oetter now.
Miss Addigene Cason is visit
ing her sister, Mrs. Hemminger
of Atlanta.

1953 graduating class of T. H S.
has been employed by Southern
Bell Telephone t o. in Macon The
marriage occurred at the Nesbitt
* home at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19
The ceremony was performed by
Mr. Wymon Hodges of Oconee.
Mr. Mrs. A. d. James Sr. of
Reynolds were guests Sunday of
the J. H. Hollimans.
Congratulations to Irwinton’s
Girl's Basketball Team for win
ning first place in the District.

won first place in their District.
The BWC of Fiist Baptist Church,
met with Mis. David Weir Monday
night. There were 9 members and 1
visitor present.

WMS MEETS
The WMS of Ebenezer Baptist
Church met at the home of Mrs.
T. A. Brundage Feb. 17 Six
members and three visitors were
present An inspirational pro
gram, “Strangers Everywhere,”
was presented by all members.
Plans were made for the Week
of Prayer program, March I—s.
A quilt was completed for the
Baptist Orphan’s Home at Hape
ville.
