for a playground, improving the
cemetery, planting bushes around
the depot, to hold a program at
church on 4-H Sunday. The 4-H
members of Mclntyre always have
their programs planned for the
meeting. They get the program by
themselves. Our advisers are:

WHAT 4-H CLUB WORK
MAY MEAN TO A GIRL
“Sewing and Cooking” are two
tasks every girl is expected to
know how to do ... . but as every
housewife and business woman
knows these are only a small min
ority of what we, the “weaker”
sex are expected to do. 4-H club
work helps prepare a girl for
whatever may confront her in the
future. In her local club she serv
es on committees, takes part on
programs which often she has

helped plan, directs local and
county activities, and often acts
as leader of the club. These help
develop her leadership qualities
and help her understand how to
best work with people. In her
home projects she may select what
she is most interested in some of
which are: Improving Home
Grounds. Improving the interior of
the home, Child Care, Food Pre
servation (Canning and Freezing)
Cooking, Clothing (construction
and remodeling), Poultry, Gar
dening, Health improvement, Good
Grooming, Home Management and
Public Speaking. In county Dis
trict and State contests she may
receive recognition for her
Achievements as well as meet boys
and girls on the State and Na
tional level. Scholarships are also
awarded to girls with outstanding
records of their work. Quite often,
through State leadership meetings
and other 4-H activities she is
trained for a job in which she
may make her own living.
County camps are held each year
to further develop talents,. These
are a few of the opportunities and
advantages that 4-H club work
offers a girl.
The Extension program for 4-H
girls was re-established in t^e
county in 1947. Since this time the
girl'; have received honors on the
District, County, State and Nation
al level, at Poultry shows, Dis
trict Achievement meetings and
State Fairs. Two girls were award
ed college scholarships. In 1953,
seven girls entered projects at
Achievement meeting for this dis
trict, with all receiving awards.
Ten girls received chicks through
the Sears Roebuck Poultry chain
with 9 of the 10, placing in the
blue award group. The two coun
ty winners also received blue
awards in the State. Two received
expense paid trips to State Lead
ership conference in Milledgeville
and 17 attended County 4-H Camp.
