Street of Irwinton
Councilman T. W. Player says
that the check presented to the
(ity of Irwintnn by the Georgia
Power Company will be used to
pay for our street lights. Time
was when our town couldn’t af
ford lighted streets, but now we
enjoy them and the Power Com
pany furnishes us the wherewith
all to pay for them. Seems too
good to bq true, - the gift of a
well-lighted town, every year!
The people of Irwinton are
deeply grateful.
Come April the Power Compa
ny will be selling building lots at
Lake -inclair, (see the ad in this
issue ) Many a fisherman is now
dreaming of a summer home on
that beautiful lakeside!
Thursday. March 4th, was Mr.
Tom Brundage’s birthday and
his sisters, Mrs. Mamie Bell Las
siter and Mrs. Jessie Coley of
Cochran spent the day with him
and Mrs BrundagA.
Mr. Mrs. Richard Drexel and
children spent the weekend in
Valdosta with parents.
Dr. Ned Davis, now serving
his internship at Macon Hospit
al, has definitely decided to come
to Irwinton to practise medicine,
moving his family here about the
first of July. The Davises have
two children.
Mr and Mrs. Willis Graham
spent the weekend with Mrs. S.
E. Hatfield and Mrs. Lucile Bragg
GSCW presented the first for
mal student concert of the year
Monday night when Laura Dell
Trapnell, Milledgeville, gave her
senior voice recital.
A student of Max Noah, head
of GS' W music department, Miss
Trapnell has won wide acclaim
for her rich contralto voice and
the sensitiveness of her interpre
tations.
She was selected by the facul
ty to be the featured soloist at
rhe farewell dinner in honor of
Dr. and Mrs. Guy Mells. Last
Christmas she demonstrated her
flawless technique and innate
musicianship when she appeared
with the A Cappela Choir and
three professional soloists in Han
del’s Messiah, singing with such
artistry that even her critics
admitted she was “on her way ”
Following her graduation from •
GSC W. she will enter the Julliard
School of Music to continue her
voice training and will take cour
ses at Columbia University.
She is the youngest daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trapnell,
former residents of Irwinton and
Mclntyre, and their many friends
will watch with loving interest

News of Gordon
Mrs Ed Kingery, chairman of
the annual Red Cross campaign
for the Gordon area, has appoint
ed the following zone workers:—

Lt. Edwin Kingery is conval
escing at the U.S.A. Hospital at
Fort Benning where he is station
ed. He recently underwent sur
gery for a skingraft to repair
wounds received in Korea.
Mr Mrs. Claude Pagett and
daughter, Claudia of Macon, for
mer residents of Gordon, were
visiting friends in Gordon Sun
day afternoon.
Rev. and Mrs. T. M. Under
wood Jr. are the proud parents
of a baby boy, born : aturday.

The winsome Bible Class of the
Baptist Church met Friday night
at the home of Mrs. C. H. Foun
tain with Mrs. I. P Holliman co
hostess Thirteen members were
present. The program chairman
for the month, Mrs. W. I. Sand
ers, presented a very interesting
program on Stewardship. Miss
Hazelle Powell, class president,
presided over the business Ses
sion. A delicious salad course
was served during the social hour

E Bloodworth assisting in serv
ing.
Mrs. Nina Daniels and son,
Ralph, Mr. Mrs. Zeigler of Sylva
nia were weekend guests of their
sister, Mrs. H. 0. Goggans and
family.
Pvt. Donald Jackson, son of
Mr Mrs. J. R. Jackson, has been
transferred from Ft. McPherson
to Ft. Eustis, Va He is soon to
undergo surgery in the U. S. A.
hospital at Fort Eustis,
Miss Jeannine English and a
college friend. Miss Virginia
Ragsdale, of Georgia Teachers
College, spent the weekend with
parents, Mr. Mrs. F S. English.
Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Jones and
son, Monroe, and Mrs J. W.
Brooks spent Sunday with their
daughter, Gloria, at North Geor
gia college at Dahlonega.
Two new road-paying projects
in the County,- 2.559 miles of
road leading from Irwinton to
Wriley, and 6.138 miles from
Toom boro towards Nichols ville.

made in Atlanta and is played by
Atlantans Everyone is invited.
The fifth grade mothers and
teacher will be hostesses.
The Methodist Quarterly Con
ference will meet in Toomsboro
Sunday. The Rev. L. A. Harrell,
district superintendent, will de
liver the sermon at 11 a.m. Din
ner will be served by the ladies
on the Church lawn and Ccnfer
ence will be held after lunch.

Mrs. Callie Jones has returned
from a visit to her sister in Tifton
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kaminsky
spent tne weekend with friends
in Aiken, S. C.
Mr. Mrs. T. E Lord of LaFay
ette, Ala. came to Toomsboro for
a visit Saturday. They landed
their plane in Macon and motor
ed over.

turn to Macon Hospital for obser
vation on March 15.
Mr. Mrs. Cleon Eubanks have
had as guests recently Mr. Mrs.
Marvin Eubanks and children of
Dublin and Mr. Mrs.C. A. Brooks
of Oconee.
Mrs Buck Dixon of Gordon vi
sited recently with Miss Nina
Beck
Mr. and Mrs O. H P. Dominy
of Rt. 1 Toomsboro lost 600 baby
chicks in a fire that destroyed
building, a quantity of feed, and
all equipment. A SI,OOO 00 loss.
Mrs Estelle Downs has had se
veral visits from her brother.
Guy Kingery of Tampa, who is
in Georgia on an assignment.
Mr. Mrs. J. H. Holliman Har
rold. Michael and Elaine spent
Sunday in Rebecca and Cordele.
