Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tanner and
son Tommy of Macon visited Mr.
and Mrs. V. L. Tanner Sunday.
Mrs. Jerry James, who spent
last week in Reynolds with Mr.
and Mrs. A S James Sr., return
ed Friday, accompanied by Mrs.
James and her little grand daugh
ter. Jenny James, who were the
guests of Mrs. Holliman for the
day.
We are glad to report that Bar
ber Brown is home after several
days in Sandersville Hospital.
Forming a spend-the-day party
at the home of Mrs. A. L Branan
recently were Mrs. George Pat
ton and children of Macon, Mrs.
Edna Williams of Pennyan, N Y.
and Mrs. Addie Dixon of T’boro.
Spending the weekend in the
’Boro were Misses Marion Holli
man, Betty Canadv. and Mary
Worthington. Mrs. Jerry James
returned to Atlanta with them
for a week’s visit.
Mr. Victor Kaminsky made a
business trip to Atlanta Thurs
day.
Mrs. Heyward Lord underwent
an operation at Middle Georgia

ebrated their twenty-sixth wed
ding anniversary Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Lord at their
home in Macon, who were also
celebrating their 26th anniversa
ry.

Nina Beck during the weekend
were Mrs. Beasley of Atlanta,

A small but vicious “twister”
struck Pearl Sylvester s house
Friday, two weeks ago. It knock
ed Purzie flat in her back yard,
but she was uninjured. A chair
seat in the house was freakishly
split and mattresses were ruined
Friends here were mighty glad
to see her roof and porch repair
ed this week.
Mrs. T. W. Bell and her broth
ers, John M. and J. H. Shepherd
made a trip to Atlanta recently.
They went to see their cousin,
Mrs. Jee W. Bridges of Cordele,
who was in an Atlanta hospital.
Mrs Bridges died suddenly when
she was thought to be recover
ing satisfactorily from an opera
ion.

da Butler. Miss Carolyn Petty
and Mrs. Fred Everett visited
Linda Butler Sunday at Scottish
Rite Hospital, Decatur.
Wade Claxton and J. R. Wilcox
spent Thursday in Atlanta.
They do say that by the time
the “snow flies” again Irwinton
will have natural gas. Aren’t we
lucky to live at the crossroads !

RED CROSS REPORT
Th* Wilkinson County Chapter of
Red Cross this year had a quota of
$1205.00 to meet their budget re
quirement. The fund raising campaign
has just been completed, under the
direction of John Carpenter of Mcln
tyre and the Treasurer, Mrs Tom Falk
nor of Mclntyre reports that the
County has successfully met its quota
and raised sl2lO 60 and that there
were 672 individual contributors of
SI.OO or more, not including corpora
tions and business firms.

MARKER FOR GEN- BUSH
Fitzgerald. — The Georgia Historical
Society dedicated a bronze marker on
Saturday at the home of the late Wil
liam J. Bush, Georgia’s last veteran
•fthe War Between the States. Hon.
Ben Fortson and Hon. Tom Linder will
head the program, which will be un
der the direction of the Ben Hill UDC
The marker read: “This was the
home of Gen. William Jordan Bush,
last survivor of the 125,000 heroes
from Georgia who fought for the
South. Gen. Bush was born near Gor
don, Ga. July 10, 1845, and died
here Nov. 11.1952. He was a private
in Co. B, 14th Ga. Infantry, under
Capt. Tom Wilcox and Gen. John B.
Gordon. His title of general was won
thru offices held in United Confeder
ate Veterans.’’

Friends and relatives here
were saddened to learn of the
passing of Mrs Joe W. Bridges,
prominent Cordel^ woman, who
died Sunday night in an Atlanta
hospital Funeral services were
held Tuesday at Cordele Method
ist Church with burial in Walnut
Cemetery in Unadilla.
She was formerly Miss Ruth
Shepherd, of Unadilla, daughter
of the late S J. Shepherd and
Ada Macon Shepherd, and had
resided there for 15 vears. She
was a member of the Methodist
Church and active in church
and other organizations

Funeral services for Mrs. W. S.
Stuckey, 86, were held Tuesday at
the Middle Ground Baptist Church
near Eastman with Rev- O’Neal offi
ciating, assisted by the Rev L, G.
Bryant. Burial was i n the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Stuckey was born in Wilkin
son County, but bad lived in Dodge
County the past 30 years and was a
member o f Reedy Springs Baptist
Church- She died at a Dodge Coun
ty hospital following a stroke.
Among the survivors are a daugh
ter. Mrs. Stella Hoover, and a sister,
Mrs Dora Hartley, both of Irwinton.
