This is one of those summers
when Irwinton is the driest town
in the county. Sometimes the
showers come in sight butdon’t
reach us. We rode down Tooms
boroway Sunday afternconand
the trees were still dripping. All
Irwinton had was a little far
off thunder. Guess we should do
better by the preacher!

John Billue has been given an
important promotion in the-Life
Insurance Company of Georgia.
He was promoted from position
of administrative assistant in the
general clerical and accounting
depariment, to manager of the
planning and methods depart
ment at the home office in Atlan
ta. John has heen with the Com
pany since 1947 and has moved
through several promotions to
his present pcsition. A graduate
of the University of Georgia, he
also attended Emory University
and Middle Georgia College He
is a veteran of World War 11.
Mr. and Mrs. John Billue and
Miss Edith Billue came home for
the recent family reunion,
Mrs Edwin Allen and daugh
ter, Marilyn Allen and Miss Ruth
Barnes, friends from Rome, Ga.
were guests this week of Mr. and
Mrs. John Porter.
Friends regret to hear that
Mrs. Lucy McArthur is seriously
ill at Uniyersity Hospital, Augus
ta.
The WSCS met Tuesday after
noon with Mrs. E B. Burgamy.

Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Bell spent
the weekend at Savannah Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Kopp spent last
week at Georgia’s new inland
beach, at Robin Lake in the lda

ta Journal Magazine carried a
write-up with gorgeous pictures
which makes us regret, more
than ever, that we missed the
Rose Garden Club’s picnice there
last June. Next time anyone says

dens’ we hope we won't be left

good night’s rest and was feeling

Funeral setvices were held at
Gordon Methodist Chureh Tues
day morning for Kimsey Ellis
(Danny ) Sibley. 15- montbh-old
son of Mr and Mrs. Hugh Siblev
of Gordon He died August 2in
a Macon hospital.
Services were conducted by the
Rev. Emmet Roberts and burial
was in Westview Cemetery, Mill
edgeville.
Survivors include his parents,
a brother. Lindsey H. Sibley Jr . |
grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Lind
sey Sibley and Mr. and Mrs. Fe
lix Chambers. all of Gordon, and
his great-grandmother, Mrs. W,
P. Ennis. Milledgeville,
"Ralph Culpepper and George
Carswell made a business trip to
Atlanta Wednesday.
We noted the passing of a be
loved radio star last week: ‘Smil
in” Ed” McConnell was found on °
his boat at Newport Beach, Cal.
He died of a heart attack. Well,
he had a Big heart, he lifted our
spirits many a time with his pro
gram of good cheer. %
