Womack-Lora t
The wedding of Miss Joyce
Womack to Vance Lord was per
formed Sunday at 6p. m. at the
Toomsboro Methodist Church,
the Rev. W. 1. Childres officiat
ing.
Joyce chose her sister, Shirley
Womack, as her maid of honor,
and Vance had his brother, Vir
gil Lord as his best man.
The groomsmen were Lozenzo
Branan and Gene Weaver.
Mrs. 0 C. Weaver was organ
ist and Mrs. Frances Ivey of
Wrightsville sang “Because’’
and * Always ”
The church was beautifully de
corated in palms, white mums
and glads, with tiny white flow
ers in vines covering the chancel
rail. Two huge candelabra held
white tapers.
After the wedding the bride’s
parents, Mr and ?^rs, T. K. Wo
mack, entertained with a recep
tion in the church parlors where
a beautiful three-tiered cake and
punch was served the guests.
Toomsboro experienced a freak
storm Monday, of hail, wind and
rain, shortly before six p. m.
while the sun was.shining bright
ly The storm seemed to be a
mile wide, stretching South from
Toomsboro All means of power
and communication were cut off
by trees tailing on the lines and
were off for four hours. A great
deal of damage was done to roofs
cars, trucksand fences by falling
limbs and trees However, no one
was injured. Main St., as well as
the rest of town was filled with
fallen limbs and trees, which
were quickly moved aside to al
low passage. Quite a number of
of people seeing the ireak cloud,
came in to see the damages.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mills’ car,
parked in Mr. Ivey Dominy's
yard, was struck by a huge limb
and damaged several hundred
dollars worth. Mr. R. 0. Bargan
i®r's truck was hit on hood. And
there were other car damages.
Only a few television aerials
were left standing while many
roofs were damaged and chim
neys topped off even with roofs.
Tuesday morning the county
trucks came in to remove the
fallen trees, etc.
Mr. Clarence Thompson’s resi
and barns were hard hit. Some
of the doors in his home were
blown down. We caijT list all

Bible School is in session this
week at the Baptist Church from
2 to 4 p m under the direction of
Rev. and Mrs. Fain assisted by
members of the church.
NOTHING SUCCEEDS LIKE SUCCESS.
THOMPSON TO SPEAK
AT SANDERSVILLE.
M. E. Thompson will speak in
neighboring Washington County
on Friday, August 20. The speech
at Sandersville will be an impor
tant one, and a motorcade from
this and other counties is expect
ed to swell the attendance for
the occasion.
The speech is scheduled for 8
p. m. The Thompson c a I i o p e,
which he introduced in the 1950
campaign, and the hillbilly band
will be on hand to furnish enter
tainment.
Thompson, whose platform in
cludes opposition to mixed schools
to toll roads and to additional
taxes, as well as proposals for ex
panded public services and an in
dustrial program for rural areas,
is expected to present the full de
tails of his 1954 platform. He
will not, however, discuss his
eight opponents.
“I will nail no hides to any
door,” Thompson says, “I will
not try to embarrass any fellow
Georgians. I will do no mud
slinging. I will need the help of
every Georgian, including those
running against me, to carry out
our program in the next 4 years.

The familiar call of Wilkinson
County School bells will ring out
on Monday. , September 6. Supt.
John W, Miller has announced
that a week of pre-planning and
conferences for teachers will
commence on Monday. August 30
On Tuesday, August 31. from
9 until 11a.m. all students of
grades one through twelve will
report for registration. Elemen
tary students will report to the
elementary schools and high
school students to the new high
school. Busses will run
A county-wide meeting of the
teachers will beheld in Irwinton
on September 2 in the Irwinton
Elementary. School Auditorium.
A program is being planned for
this meeting and lunch will be
served in the school luncohroom.
The loved ones of Mr. Alonza
Carr will be pleased to learn that
Mrs. M. E. Thomas has sent a do
nation to the Doctor’s Committee
in honor of Mr. Carr.
Mrs Thomas lives in Vineland
N. J. and at present is visiting
her son, John Knight Thomas
and family in Fitzgerald.
Miss Elaine Holliman spent
several days in Milledgeville re
cently where she visited her cous
ins. Misses Emilv and Laura
Delle Trapnell.

OLD MAID’S CLUB POSTPONED
The "Old Maid’s Club” spon
sored by the Kaolin Center Gar
den Club of (Jordon, which was
scheduled for Friday night, Aug.
24, has been postponed,
Lizzie Allen, wife of General
Allen, died Friday at St. Luke’s
Hospital in Macon. She suffered
a stroke. Lizzie will be missed
by both white and colored, who
extend sympathy to the family.

while Mr. Kaminsky is in Camp
at Ft. Benning,
