Political Hatred
^^^Rriously doubt the wisdom
Georgia State Senate in
confirming the appointment of
Tom Wisdom as State Auditor,
We doubt the wisdom of con- 1
firming any of this old political,
fossil’s appointments.
The Governor gives no consid- (
eration to efficiency.
All he wants is a political I
jumping jack.
Sam Slate was universaly at-1
knowledged to be one of the i
most competent men in the set- ■
vice of the State.
But that didn’t spell anything.
He refused to loop the loop at:
the crack of the Boss’s lash.
We don’t know much about!
this man Wisdom, and care less.'
The fact chat ne carries the j
stamp of approval of the Gover-;
nor renders him undesirable, as ■
far as we are concerned.
If China could whip Russia and
in turn Russia could whip China,
it would be a great blessing to the
civilization of the world.
(>ne of the misfortunes attend
ing the death of Congressman(
Steele, it gives‘‘Weary Willie tm
opportunity to go into eruption I
again.
It would be mighty nice if one,
or mor of our constituents who
are selling tobacco tor a good!
price, would think of it and chunk,
a dollar towards us on thier sub
scription.

The fact that Claxton lead the en- (
' tire state in the general average price
of tobacco on the opening day on last
' Tuesday, is a source of great jubila
tion in the Evans County Capitol.
The Claxton market is one of the I
very best in the whole belt, and buy-!
ers were satisfied with the grade of i
tobacco the growers in the Claxton |
section had to offer, and the growers
were well pleased at the prices re- |

Moncey Lanier Gets Two Years
Burning Bay District Buildings.

I The trial of Monccey Lanier
l charged with burning four vacant
( dwelling houses in the Bay Dis-,
trict in Bulloch County, cam e to j
an end ^on Saturday, afternoon,
.after having consumed the greater
part of two days.
I The jury brought in a 'verdict
Os guilty, with a penalty of two
years fixed in the verdict.
This was the minimum term
I they could give him, as the penai-
Zy for. arson is from two to twenty
years.
Some unusual features develop

Wilburt Jones, one of the party
of five young men charged with
ply in g the incendiary torch
to four vacant dwelling houses the
property of Mr. D. B. Warnol and
Messrs Griner Brothers, a short
distance from the Bryan County
line, in the Bay District in Bulloch
oCounty.
i Jones squealed on the other
members of the gang, turned evi
dence, and reeieved immunity
.from prosecution.
iis The action of the state in turn
ing young J ones loose, in consid
reration of his treachery against
his partners in crime, was severe
ly criticised by the attorneys for
the defense.

Chatham Tobacco
To Statesboro Market
Chatham county is busy curing
her fine tobacco crop. It has
been announced that the County
Cominis iorfers will place the
Chatl n product on sale at the
Statef^nw Tobacco Market.
Mr? t nomas A, Jones, grew
some of the finest tobacco listed,
on his farm in Chatham county.
Mr. Jones sold his tobacco on the
Statesboro Market for 45 cents
per pound.
This shows that Chatham
county lands are well adopted to
the growth of the finest grades
of Golden Leaf tobacco.

With more than one half of the
bi-enual term of the Georgia Legis
lature gone, nothing has been accom
plished yet, except to trade of. Sam
Slate, the most efficient man in the
state capitol.
There is a bill pending to return to
the old annual custom of having the. e
fellows meet, chaw the rag and hunt
up some scheme by which the people
can be taxed on a larger scale.
The people would probably ratify
a bill if submitted to them to have
the legislature meet once in every
forty years.
Every time they meet, they lay the
tax burden on heavier than it wa
before.
