Walter R. McDonald formally
announces and qualifies as a candidate
for re-election as a member of the
Georgia Public Service Commission.
Mr. McDonald, a member of the
Augusta Bar and a graduate of the
University of Georgia In the class oi
1914, represented his native* County ol
Richmond with credit to himself and
his constituents for three successive
terms in the Lower House of the Gene
ral Assembly, having first been elect
ed in the primary of 1916. Immediate
ly following his sendee In the General
Assembly, Mr. McDonald was nomi
nated in the primary of 1922 for a
six year term as a member of the
Georgia Public Service Commission
succeeding Hon. C. Murphey Candler.
Who voluntarily retired.
At the completion of his first term
as a member of the Commission, in 1928
Mr. McDonald became a candidate to
succeed himself and in the face of
bitter and unfair opposition was over
whelmingly i:uk.-cd for re-electior. re
ceiving a mi^iuy of the votes in all
counties of Georgia except four and
loring only eight out of the possigle four
hundred and fourteen county unit votes
which was, he says, almost as great a
vote of confidence as ever received by
any public officer ir. Georgia.
Mr. McDonald says that as his term
expires next year, he will regularly
come up before the people in the Sep
tember Primary in advance of the
convening of the Legislature in Jan
uary, 1025 which Body will finally pass
upon the Governor.", orders of suspen
sion g>< srir.g out of unfair and ground
less charges made in the hearing
last summer, and he therefore wel
comes this opportunity of again pre
senting his record to the voters of
G>eorgla.
In announcing for re-election, Mr.
McDonald states that he is basing his
entire campaign upon a platform of
his previous record of faithful and
conscientious service, which record he
says discloses the fact that he has con
sistently stood for and either initiated
or actively supported every move that
looked towards lowfer and more rea
sonable utility rates in Georgia.
It has always been and will continue
to be his purpose constanaly, he states,
to provide for the users of the various
services of the utilities of the State
the very lowest rates that car. b<_ jus
tified commensurate with the .-ervice
rendered and it will continue to be
his policy to provide and enforce so
far as possible, proper and adequate
regulation of the motor transportation
systems, granting franchises only
where the public necessity demanded
it and discouraging in every way poss
ible the unregulated motor carriers and
that further he will continue to work
for fair and reasonable freight rates
and without losing sight of the all
important interstate freight rate ad
justment, which is after all of greater
importance to the Georgia farmer and
shipper than the purely intrastate
rates. I

Mr. McDonald states that It is his
purpose to keep his campaign clear

previous service record, as well as vin
lication, and will not be directed
.gainst any individual, as he is a can
