gressional District of Georgia:
1 hereby announce myself a
candidate for re-election to Con
gress from the First Congressional
District of Georgia subject to the
Democratic primary that is to be
held in said district on September!
12. 1934.
I ask for your support on m/
record of service in the two short
terms (eighteen months and
twenty-two months) that 1 have
served as your representative in
the 72nd and 73rd Congresses.

offering as a candidate 1 will abide
by the Rules and Regulations of
our Democratic Party that shall be
agreed upon for the forthcoming
state Democratic Primary to be
held on September 12th. 1 will
wage an active campaign and hope
to have the pleasure of meeting
personally all of our citizens.
Should the people of the first
district honor me by election as

to serve them to the very best of
my ability. It has been my dear
est ambition to take up the work
where my father left off and tc

gress as well as with other affairs!

which will enable me to begin the
work without the handicap which
a new man would have. 1 will
state at this time that I shall so
nearly' as humanly possible sup
port our great leader and Presi
dent, Franklin D. Roosevelt.
However, 1 shall conscientiously ।
represent the First District and
their welfare as 1 see it and at no
time for the sake of political ex- <
pediency will I follow anyone or :
any group and stiflle any of my
convictions. Whenever 1 make a
promise to whomever given it will
be carried out. 1 earnestly solicit
the support, vote and influence of
our Democratic Citizens and will
appreciate and be grateful for
them. In the course of the cam
paign I shall confine myself to is
sues and will indulge in no per
sonalities. The only real issue be- '
fore the people is this question,
"Who can best serve our District
as its Representative?" The peo
ple are the jury and the office is
theirs to give. 1 place my case in
their hands w'ith every confidence
in their verdict and faith in them. 1

ident of your circuit from my birth.
I believe that I am qualified to hold
this very important office, having
attended the common schools of Bryan
County, the high schools of Emai uel
County Institute, graduated from the
Bryan County High School and tookk
a literary course at Valparaiso Uni
versity, in Northern Indiana, and a
law course from Mercer University
Macon, Georgia I was admitted to the
bar on June Bth. 1910, ar.d have been
practicing law at Pembroke since that
। time. I have no occupation other than
that of pratlclng law. and for the past
' twenty-three years as a practitioneer.
1 1 have had a fair or moderate success.
It has been the custom of the people
of Georgia to give an office holder at
least one (ull term, .if ixe Is in any
manner qualified to fill the position.

never been placed at my door, and I
