Why Not Have A
Trustee Election?
While we have no kick on any
of the trustees in any of the
several school districts, we just
wonder why it is that Bryan
county is sitting still and ignoring
the holding of an election, while
the rest of the counties are hold
ing elections.
It might be that a change
would be good in Bryan.
It is the policy in Bryan to let
a man get on the Board and serve
from then on unless some one
enters a protest and asks for an
election.
A poor way to ri ^ he thing.
When a man is eluted for two,
four or six years and serves his
time he should be made to run a
gain and let the people say
whether they endorse his services
or not.
There are men serving on the
school Board of Bryan county
whose time is out over a year ago,
so we have been told.
We would just like to know
why it is tnat Bryan county
should operate different from
what the law says and different
from all others?
The new law sets up that Bryan
county has only one district eligi
ble to have five trustees and that
the other three is allowed onlv
three- As it is now they have
five trustees from all of thes ,- hcol
districts.
It would be a good thing to get
some new blood in some of the
school boards, and the patrons are
certainly entitled to vote on their
trustees “once ever so often.’’
Red Cora! Always Prized
It is red coral that is and always
has been prized, not solely for jew
elry and buttons, but as a charm to
bring safety, health and secrets not
revealed to the ordinary person. As
ancient Gauls rushed headlong in
to battle, they trusted their safety to
their swords, strength and the
“magic” coral imbedded in their
shields or helmets. Many Italians
and Indians regard coral as protec
tion against the “evil eye. ’ Ihe
world’s red coral comes from the
reefs off the Mediterranean coast of
Africa, says the Washington Post,
and is obtained chiefly by Italians.

Neighbors Say
They Will Give
A ‘Housewarming’
The more we think aboat going
to Lanier to live, the better we
like it.
We spent Tuesday there doing
some minor repairs to the house,
and getting acquainted with the
surroundings.
There may not be anything to
it, but we understand that the
neighbors are going to give us a
‘’housewarming” when we get
down there, now he have never
had one of these things given us
before, but it sounds good and we
are in favor of it.
Captain Stubbs says that it has
been suggested to him that he
give us a big barbecue supper and
that be invite all of our friends
a»d all of his friends to attend-
Os course we are in favor of Cap
tain Stubbs doing this very thing,
and we sorter feel like he is “con
templating” doing that, but the
big trouble is finding enough
shoats to feed all of our friends.
You just don’t know how many
friends Captain Stubbs and the
editor of this paper both have.
But we just wish to go on
record as favoring the “house
warming” and also the barbecue
And we trust that one or both of
these ca« be carried out.
Shoe Repair Shop
Opens In Pembroke
Yes sirrie, Pembroke has a
modern shoe repair shop, and it
is operated by a white man that
really knows how to repair shoes.
He is located near .the telephone
exchange and is asking for the
repair business of this section.
His ad appears elsewhere in this
paper and we hope that our people
will remember him with their
business.
We have patronized him and
have found his work of the best
and his prices the lowest we have
seen anywhere in a long time. In
fact his prices are ‘ before the
war kind-

Roberts Says He
Will Not Run To
Succeed Himself
The daily papers have quoted
Hon. Columbus Roberts as saying
that he will not be a candidate to
succeed himself as Commissioner
of Agriculture in the next race.
He was elected for a term of four
years,
There is no question in our
mind but that Columbus Roberts
is the biggest man in state po’i
tics in Georgia today. He is
making the state a good commis
sioner of Agriculture and would
make the state an ideal Governor.
We are going on record now as
being for Columbus Roberts for
Governor in the race three years
from mow- The people of the
state would do well to start bow
to getting lined up for Roberts
for Governor in 19-10.
Governor Rivers will have
served one term and probably
another one by that time, and
therefore would not be eligible te
run, and it would be a fine thing
for Mr. Roberts to be the man to
succeed Governor Rivers in 1940.
He is a gooi man. a Christian
gentleman, and a man that has
the welfare of the people of Geor
gia at heart. Let’s “draft” him
in 1940 for Governor of Georgia.
No Excuse For
Unemployment
Once and a while we bear of
this or that fellow being unable
to find a job. That is just a lot
of “baloney”. The truth of the
matter is that he does not want a
‘jo!. he is seeking a position.
There is work and plenty of it
for all able bodied Bien that wants
work and is willing to shuck off
his coat and put out.
The trouble with most of them
is that <hey want just the kind of
a job that they can’t find. Few
of them are willing to get on the
business end of a cross cut saw, cr
swing an ax. but ih ey are looking
for something easy with big pay.
There is no excuse for any man
being with >ut something to do.

Legionaires Have
Big Time Wed.

The dance at Dashers Pavilion
on Wednesday night and which
was sponsored by the new Ameri
can Legion Post in Bryan county
was a very successful one and
was attended by a large crowd,
notwithstanding the fact that it
was necessary to go there in a
heavy downpour of rain.
A delightful fish supper was
I served before the dance and there
' wag a plenty of cat fish chowder
' which was prepared by Herman
[ Cason, this proved to be the treat
of the meal. Everyone was well
pleased with the supper and the
dance.
Music for the dance was furn
ished by Jelly and His Dude
Ranch Cowboys. They were at
their best and made many friends
on Wednesday night.
