Combustion of Vapor
The combustion of ignited vapor
in a cylinder is so rapid that it is
usually spoken of as an explosion,
although the word combustion is
more correct. Combustion means
the act or instance of burnin*.
Gallogly Again
In Tattnall Pen
Reidsville.—The main gate of
Tattnall prison closed behind
lifetermer Richard Gray Gallo
gly Sunday night, ending a 1,200
mile return from Texas where he
fled 173 days ago.
Public Safety Commissioner
Lon P. Sullivan and seven state
patrolmen ushered the Atlanta
“thrill slayer” into Georgias “Al
catrez of the piney woods” short
ly after dark.
“Hello, Dick,” said H. L. Foote,
assistant record clerk, “glad to
see you back.”
“Hello, Mr. Foote,” was Gal
logly’s reply.
Gallogly waited briefly in an
outer hall and then was hustled
to a receiving room to be refin
gerprinted and docketed. Later
he surrendered his stylish blue
worsted suit and donned grey
denim.
Capt. A. M. Ankers, night su
perintendent < f the prison, ac
cepted custoy of the prisoner
from the state troopers.
Three cars, loaded with armed
patrolmen, escorted Gallogly
from Atlanta to Tattnall after his
return from Dallas, Texas.
The prisoner, his hands mana
cled to a heavy leather belt, hud
dled beneath a trdoper’s overcoat
and stared at the countryside as
the cars sped south at a mile a
minute clip. He refused food
the party halted at Griffin for
lunch, and remained under a
guard in the car.
Sunday’s admittance was his
second to the state prison. He ex
plained he was brought here
briefly in the early part of 1939
for a physical checkup, then re
turned to Atlanta.
The 30 year old Gallogly, scion
of a prominent Atlanta family,
was detained at state police head
quarters in Atlanta for half an
hour en route here.
He said he had gained about
25 pounds since he fled Georgia
and now weighs 165 pounds.
At one time Gallogly served
part of his time in the Evans
county chain gang.

He Is Accosted.
Jim Arnold, a white man, who
lives at Hagan, settled with the
“White Caps” in a manner that
seemed to take care of the situ

Mr. Arnold stated to the sher

tier. According to ArtUld and
some of those who were ,l in on
the matter” a note was left at
his house on Saturday, March 16.
stating, “You have until sundown
to leave, or the white caps will
take over.”
He states that he found this
note when he returned from
work, and paid but little atten
to it. On Saturday night he was
standing in the door when three
men came up and asked for him.
He stated he replied, “Here I am
and I got your note and here is
my answer.” He waded into the
bunch and soon had the business
under control, but not until he
had whittled on one of them
with his pocket knife.
The warrant was withdrawn
last week and Arnold is free, and
