Preston Will
Be Opposed In
His Next Race
We have often heard that all
good things come to an end, and
from all we can hear there is no
doubt but that Prince Prestons
holiday is fast coming to a close.
That he will have opposition in
his next race is a conceded fact
by those in the know.
Congressman Preston has been
very fortunate in his politics, hav- (
ing not had opposition since be- ;
ing elected, and he winning the ;
first race he made for the place.
But it must be remembered that
■
there was about half of the people ,
against him to strat with, most of (
them are still that way, have just
remained silent and said nothing,
but awaiting the opportunity to
rear back on their hind feet and
assert their stand.
Then Preston has not added any
friends on his various appoint
ments, and some of them are go
ing to cast him counties, that oth
erwise he might have called his
own.
One of the things that helped
Preston in his first race was that
he was going to ignore Savannah
and be the country mans Con
gressman, but that has not proved
to be the case, in fact it is the re
verse. Then Congressman Preston
told the wool hat boys that he
would visit the court houses in the
various counties where he would ,
be available to talk to them and ,
learn of their wants. This he has
utterly failed to do. There are I
counties in which he has not been 1
seen, unless he was hunting or i
fishing in months and months.
Yes, Prince Preston has grown i
independent, wealthy and has be- i
come to believe he is “unbeatable” ।
because no one has tackled him, <
but you can take it from one that
has long been a friend of Prince
Preston, and who we believe had ’
more to do with his going to Con- '
gress than any other one man, 1
that holiday is over with, and i
from now on he is going to find :
the going tough and tougher. <
That man that is figuring on :
the place comes from the Peterson 1
faction, is very popular, a sue- i
cessful politician and will have :
ample funds to run on. This is a '
hard combination to beat.
PEMBROKE JOURNAL, PEMBROKE, GEORGIA
Nothing Like
Being A Country
Editor And Mayor
For one reason or another Ye
Editor and his wife have been
“wined and dined” in a fashion
fit for a King. No one person has
as many good friends who remem
ber them than Ye Editor has. we
arc sure.
Last Monday night we were in
vited by the Buhler family to
visit their place, the U. S. 280
Restaurant, located 2 miles west
of Pembroke and be their guest
for a supper- or a “dinner,” if
you like it that way, and while
we were expecting the best of
food etc., we were astonished at
the fine quality of the food, pre
pared as only an expert chef could
do so, and served in a manner
that would be pleasing to anyone.
They have a wonderful place and
there is no doubt that as the peo
ple learn about this fine eating
place that they will operate to
capacity.
Then on Friday night we were
invited by Brigadier Clare H.
Armstrong to be his guest at din
ner at his headquarters in Camp
Stewart, and of course we were
there. We found Judge Don Fraser,
his wife and little daughter as
guests also, as well as an army
Major and his wife. General Arm
strong is a wonderful host and
has everything as it should be,
served in a manner that is pleas
ing, in addition he is one of the
most entertaining host we have
ever had the pleasure of, and his
home is one of interesting items,
collected from all over the world
and General Armstrong delights in
telling you of this article or that
one, where it came from and some
thing of its value. It was one of
the most delightful evenings Ye
Editor and his wife has ever had,
and as the time passes we realize
more and more how fortunate we
are to have as our friend, Gen
eral Armstrong of Camp Stewart.
And on Sunday we received a
‘casual” invitation to have dinner
with the Herman Cason family,
which we gladly accepted for we
have known for a long time that
their home is the place to get
something god to eat anytime,
especially a 'ound Christmas. W«
found the Daniel family from
Claxton, the Clark family from
Sylvania and the Anderson fam
ily from Register, along with the
children, and to learn that we
were the only “outsiders” to be
among the guests made us feel
“important,” and when we sat down
at the table all eighteen guests
at one time, it was loaded with
every imaginable good thing to
eat, and if Ye Edittor ever made
a pig out of himself he did so
Sunday. There wasn’t a “wrinkle
left in our tummy.” We have long
counted Herman Cason, his wife,
his son J. D. and his wife, the
twins and the little boy among
our closest friends. Truly it is
wonderful to have such good
friends.
The Cantata A
Big Success
The Cantata presented at the
Pembroke Methodist Church on
Sunday night by the combined
choirs of the Christian, Baptist
and Methodist churches, with Mrs.
Imogene Bacon as pianist, Mrs.
H. M. Sanders as organist and
Mrs. Alene Shaw as Director was
a big success. The church was
filled to capacity.
It was one of the finest Christ
mas programs ever presented in
Pembroke and we are sure that in
the future it will become an an
nual affair.
