John Duggar
Post To Serve
A Fish Supper
Friday night, June 5, there will
be a fresh water fish supper
served at the Legion Home in
Pembroke by the John Duggar
Post. All veterans are invited to
attend and to bring their wives
with them. The supper will be
served promptly at 8 o’clock and
there will be a prominent out of
town speaker for the occasion.
If you are a member already
be sure and be there. If you are
not a member, but eligible to be
come one, you are given a cordial
invitation to attend.
In addition, there is some very
important business to come up for
a decision that night and the Post
officials urge that every one at
tend that possibly can.
Ellabelle Man
Buried at Black
Creek Thursday
Funeral services for Thomas D.
triggers, Ellabelle, who died Wed
nesday afternoon, May 27. were
held Friday at 4:30 at Holiness
church near Ellabelle by the Rev.
C. M. Butler and the Rev. Hum
phries. Burial was in Black Creek
: cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Bertha Gay Driggers; two dau
ghters, Mrs. Esther Driggers,
Hagan, and Miss Willa Mae
Driggers, Ellabplle; one sond, J. W.
Driggers, Moultrie; one grand dau
ghter, Retha Mae Driggers; and
one grandson, Johnnie C. Driggers.
Pallbearers were Joe Hearst,
Rollie Newman, Clifton Williams,
J. C. Croft, Bill Summerford, Bill
Shuman, George Burke, and Robert
Shuman.
Mocßson Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Shu
man, of Blitchton, announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Virginia, to Ralph E. Miller, son
of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Miller, of
Brooklet. The wedding will take
place in June.

Forestry News
The Bryan County Forestry Unit
called attention this week to the
forest laws of Georgia and the in
creased enforcement which has been
placed behind the laws here in this
county’ and throughout the First
Forestry District.
“Stated briefly,” said Ranger G.
B. Williams, “the principal laws
governing burning and firing of
the woods divided the infractions
into misdemeanors and felonies. A
landowner is allowed to burn his
own land, but once the fire crosses
onto the land of another the per
son who set the fire is guilty of a
misdemeanor and is subject to
prosecution, regardless of whether
or not he intended for the fire to
cross over to a neighbor’s land.
“Intertional firing of the woods
of another owner without the per
mission of that owner constitutes
a felony,” continued Williams “and
carries with it a more severe pen
alty.”
Ranger Williams, in discussing
the fire law emphasized that the
cause of all fires were investigated
with a view to prosecution if con
ditions require such action. The
First District Fire Investigator,

carrying on intensive investigation
and enforcement. Williams urged
cooperation with the forest law en
forcement on the part of all per
sons in the county to help reduce
fire loss.

Chaplain Branyan is known in
Pembroke because of the talk he
made here in December of last
year when he and a group of young
people from Camp Stewart ap
peared on a Baptist Training Union
program. He will preach at both
the morning and evening services.

ham spent last week in Statesboro
as guests of the former’s grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wat
ers. Beverly has the privilege each
year of inviting a friend to spend
this always anticipated visit with
her.
