Forestry News
The Georgia Forestry Commis
sion is preparing a complete di
rectory of all wood using indus
tries in Georgia, under the direc
tion of Rufus Page, Forest Prod
ucts Technician, James W. Richey
of the Bryan County Forestry
Unit said today.
The 200 page publication, con
taining some 2,000 firms which
use wood as a raw material or
sell wood products, will be avail
able to the public. The directory
will be published sometime in June.
According to Page, the booklet
will be cross-indexed, listing the
firms by district and county and
by products sold. Each ranger
in the state will receive one copy
for his permanent file, and dis
trict offices will be furnished with
several additional copies.
Landowners or industrial per
sonnel may obtaih a copy of the
directory upon request either from
the local county ranger or from
the state forestry office in Macon.
Publication of the directory was
prompted by pub 1 i c demand,
Richey said, because landowners
seeking markets for stumpage and
buyers of wood products have re
quested such information.
ANGLERS RUN
OUT OF LUCK
Roving Chief J. B. Bowling,
who recently spent a week in South
Georgia, reports that downstate
fishing is not up to par.
Chief Bowling said that high
water has cut down on fisher
men’s luck, particularly in regions
that received considerable rainfall
during recent rains. However, bass
and bream fishing will return to
normal when the water recedes,
the Chief predicted.
Chief Cliff Palmer of the Man
agement Area District reports that
fishing success in North Georgia
lakes has decreased, too, but that
several anglers have taken sev
eral bass and bream from Lake
Chatuge, Lake Burton and Lake
Blue Ridge.
Clark Hill Reservoir and Lake
Allatoona continue to be the choice
spots of several Georgia anglers.
