Get New Pastor
Members of the Pembroke Meth
odist Church will hear a new pas
tor Sunday, and, after four years,
have bid farewell to the Rev. J. L.
Hendrix, who has served the
charge for that length of time.
Mr. Hendrix’s last sermon was
Sunday, .June 9, when he preached
at the Ellabelle church.
Wednesday and Thursday are
“moving days” in the South Geor
gia conference and on Wednesday
night Mr. and Mrs. Hendrix, Mar
gie, Jimmy, J. W., Margaret and
Ruth Ellen will go to Macon where
the pastor will serve the Hillcrest
Heights Methodist Church. The
move is definitely in the nature
of a promotion for Mr. Hendrix,
members of the local church said.
On Thursday the Rev. and Mrs.
J. C. M. Ward and their five chil
dren will move into the parsonage
on Camellia Drive, taking over
the pastorates of the Pembroke,
Daisy and Ellabelle Methodist
churches. Two of the new fami
• lies children, Paul and Mary
I Joyce, have finished school and are
! working. The three at home are
• Marian, Hi, Wesley, 12, and Lena
i Frances, six years old.
I Mr. Ward has been at Isle of
j Hope for a year, being called from
1 Ludowici Methodist Church to fill
i a vacancy which occurred there.
[ Since entering the ministry, Mr.
1 Hendrix has climbed steadily as
i seen by his pastorates. Before
I coming to Pembroke he was at
1 Whigham-Climax for four years,
• his popularity there being shown
j by the many times he was called
1 back since being in Pembroke. Con
। ference leaders said his assign
i ment to Pembroke was a forward
step and the Macon appointment
continues his. climb.
The family will leave a member,
Mrs. G. Marion Hope, in Pem
broke, as well as their first grand
child, Stephen. Mrs. Hope is the
former Miss Dorothy Hendrix. She
and her sister, Margie, were out
standing members of the basket
ball team at Bryan County High
School and were both honor grad-
। uates.
' Also of much interest in Meth
i odist circles is the re-appointment
i of the Rev. John Ivey to the Rich
! mond Hill Methodist Church. Mrs.
> Ivey is active in the Richmond
i Hill and district Woman’s Society
j of Christian Service and during
• his tenure of service there Mr.
। Ivey has done an outstanding job.
j The Rev. Tom Watson is trans-
I ferred from Nashville to the Rob
। ert Mclntire Methodist Church in
! Savannah. Mr. Watson is a for-
I mer pastor of the Pembroke and
’ Savannah Beach churches.
