Pembroke Me’rhodis;Ts to Gather
Sunday for Homecoming Day
Pembroke Methodists will wel-’
come a former pastor at their
Homecoming Day on Sunday, No
vember 27. ‘
r When the Rev. Louis M. Spivey
'returns briefly to Pembroke he
!will preach from the pulpit of an
‘entirely new church and see many
new faces.
There are still many, however,
‘who remember Mr. and Mrs, Spi
ivey and their return will be plea
f:ant to all. :
. Mr. Spivey was pastor of the
{church when it was located on the
corner where the home of D. C.
McGahee now stands. For many
{years a building fund accumulated
slowly in the bank and it was
tduring the pastorate of the Rev.
Bruce Wilson that the church was
‘torn down and the new church
”started and completed. During the
process services were hled in a
’tent on the site of the old church.
,; The parsonage was built while
the Rev. Tom Watson was pastor
‘but he, his wife and four young
|daughters lived in it only a short
‘while before he was sent by the
South Georgia Conference to Sa
ivannah. At that time the par
‘sonage was owned by the Daisy
!and Ellabelle Methodist churches
'as well as the Pembroke church,
{Since the Pembroke church has
gone to a full-time basis it pur
chased the interests of the other
Etwo churches.
. The history of the church wili
‘be traced from its early beginning
;to the present time in the bulletin
on Sunday. The interesting story
Ewi]l be compiled from minutes
'which have been taken from church
grecords of many years ago.
. Following the morning worship
‘dinner will be served in the social
‘hall and the congregation is in
'vited to attend. :
A committee has been appointed
|to make plans for a sing during
|the afternono, to which the public
;is invited.
