Honor Roll for
BCHS 2nd Session
Is Announced
The honor roll for the second
session of Bryan County High
School has been announced by J.
W. Edmonds, principal of the
school.
This is the first year in some
time that the school has had a
publicly announced honor roll on
which membership in the Beta
Club is based.
On the “A” honor roll for the
elementary school are: 4th grade,
Darlene Butler, Carol Duggar,
Cynthia Edmonds, Gregory Har
vey, Frank Miles, Linda Speir,

GSC Grad Accepts
Teaching Place in
Dekalb County
A graduate of Georgia South
ern College from Pembroke will
begin the first of the year in her
new job as teacher in Dekalb
County.
Although Miss Shearer Shaw
will not officially receive her dip
loma until June, she will have
completed next week all require
ments for a bachelor of science
degree in education. She will be
gin work after the Christmas holi
days in the primary department
of a school in the Dekalb County
system. Miss Shaw did her prac
tice teaching in the first grade
at Marvin Pittman,
The new teacher is a graduate
of Bryan County High School and
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. T. Shaw. She is a member of
the Pembroke Methodist Church
and when at home participates in
the church’s youth activities.
Calvin Smith Is
On Honor List
At College
Notice has been received from
the director of public information
at Emory at Oxford, that Calvin
Smith has been named to the
Honor List of the college, accord
ing to records in the office of the
registrar, W. B. Bohannon.
This scholastic honor Is granted
to students for outstanding aca
demic work and excellent deport
ment at the mid-term grading
period of the present quarter.
Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Kyle D. Smith of Pembroke, This
is his second year at the school
where he established an excellent
record while a freshman, being
accorded many honors and awards
in scholastic, athletic and military
| fields.

Invited on
Armstrong Tour
State legislators and newspaper
editors from five counties will
meet in Savannah on December
14 for a tour of Armstrong College
as part of a State university
system public relations program.
Armstrong President Foreman
M. Hawes said several of the uni
versity system’s needs will be out
lined at a luncheon before the
tour. Frank O. Miller, editor of
The Pembroke Journal, has been
invited t the I’lm-he'n .mi tour
as has also Senator Charles F.
Warnell.
The luncheon is one of a series
scheduled around the state to fa
miliarize the public with problems
of Georgia’s sprawling university
system. The state has been divid
ed into five-county groups, each
of which will visit a university
system school.
Assigned to Armstrong were
editors and lawmakers from Chat
ham, Effingham, Mclntosh, Bryan
and Liberty.
The school tours have been sup
plemented by pamphlets citing
teacher pay problems, anticipated
enrollment increases and other
data. The pamphlets have been
distributed to civic clubs, news
papers, county commissioners and
others.
Two 4-H Club Boys
Get Awards for
Poultry Exhibit
To Bryan County 4-H Club boys
have received cash awards for
showing blue ribbon pullets in the
state 4-H poultry chain show.
The pair first won cash awards
given by the Sears-Roebuck Foun
dation in the poultry show held
in Pembroke in September, The
flocks owned by Danny Braswell
and Derrell Purvis were judged
best of those exhibited and were
chosen to be sent to the South
eastern Fair in Atlanta. There
the pullets also won blue ribbons
; and their owners have each been
: presented a cash award of $5.00.

The flocks were raised by re
commendations put out by the
Georgia Extension Service. Ad
