and Mill Creek
School News

Pembroke High and Mill Greek
Elementary Schools will officially
open the 1962-01! term at 9:00
A.M., Monday, August 27. On the
first day of the pre-planning con
ference the teachers at Pembroke
and Mill Greek will meet at Pem
broke High School for the first
day of the conference. The first
day will consist of orientation for
new teachers and it discussion on
school and County policies. On
August 28, 29 and 30th the teach
ers will meet at their respective
schools to plan the year’s work.
The first day for students will be
on Friday August 31. This is a
regular school day and the school
will operate on a full schedule.
Saturday, September 1,1962 at
9:00 A.M. the teachers at G. W.
Carver School, Mill Creek School
and Pembroke High School will
meet at G. W. Carver for the first
meeting of all County Teachers.

County Teachers Association will
also be held on this day.
Parents are reminded that school
bells will ring at 8:20 A.M. on
Friday. August 31, 1962 for all
students. The lunch room will be
opened with the prices being 25
cents for students and 30 cents
for adults including a bottle of
milk. Extra milk will be served
at 10 cents a bottle. School buses
will run on the same schedule be
ginning Friday, August 31.
Monday, September 3,1962 is
the first holiday of the 1962-63
term. The teachers assigned to
Mill Creek School are incomplete
at the present time. Teachers as
signed to Pembroke High School
are: Leon Dingle, principal; Mrs.
Estella Crim, Mrs. Lucinda Brown,
Miss Laura Densler, Mrs. Dorothy
Geter, Mrs. .Jane Dingle, Mrs.
Mabel Bleach, Mrs. Pinkie Henry,
Miss Ella Brunson, Mrs. Alberta
Manzo, Mrs. Ddlie Cook, Frank
Blackshear, Mrs. Gertrude D.
Johnson, Mrs. Lula A. Garrison.
Other persons employed at the
school are: Mrs. Etner Hines,
Lunch Room, Paul Gillard, jani
tor. Bus drivers are: J. C. Ball,
Joseph Bunch, James Odell Moore I
and Tommie Carter.
Tuesday, September 1.1962 at
8:20 A.M. students will report back
to school. The next holiday for
students will be Wednesday, Oc
tobcr 10, 1962 when the teachers
will atttend the District Teachers
meet) n g at Todd Grant High
School in Darien. Other holidays
are: November 22, 23 Thanksgiv
ing; December 30 through January
1, 1963 Christmas; April 12 and
15th Easter Holidays. According
to our schedule school will close
for students on May 30, 1963.
M/SGT. NOLAN TO
BE STATIONED IN
GERMANY
M/Sgt. and Mrs. E. F. Nolan
and two of their children,
Stephen and Marjorie, are with
her mother, Mrs. J. Gordon Bacon,
having arrived in Pembroke Satur
day.
Mrs. Nolan and the children will
be in Pembroke for an indefinite
time until they receive orders to
go to Germany where M/Sgt. No
lan will be stationed. An unavoid
able delay in travel plans made it
necessary for his family to follow
at a later date.
M/Sgt. Nolan will leave Pem
broke around September 1 for New
York and expects to fly from there
to Schweinfurt, Germany, on Sep
tember 10.
The family came to Pembroke
from Tacoma, Washington, M/Sgt.
Nolan having been at Fort Lewis
since January, 1962.
The, couple’s elder son, Edward,
is at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va.
FORMER RESIDENTS
RETURN TO P'BROKE
• The many friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Lane and their son,
Howard, are delighted that the
family will return to Pembroke, to
live within a short time.
Mr. Lane has already been in
town for several weeks, being em
ployed by the Pembroke Motor Co.
He is with his sister, Mrs. W. I.
Kennedy, and Mr. Kennedy, until
the house they will occupy is va
cant.
The family moved to Savannah
some time ago where both have
been working. While in Pembroke
they were active in its business,
! civic and church life and their re
turn will be an asset to the city.

TO PREACH AT
LAWRENCE SUNDAY
The Rev. Charles Stewart, States
boro, will preach at Lawrence Bap
tist Church on Sunday, August 26.
Mr. Stewart has recently moved
to Statesboro from Macon.
The public is invited to hear
him.

of basic training at Lackland Air
Force Base in San Antonio, Texas,

aunt, Mrs. F. O. Miller and Mr.
Miller for two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hatcher,
Bloomingdale, and Mrs. L. P. Sum
merford, Lanier, went to Meigs for
the week-end to attend a wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher returned
home, but Mrs. Summerford is
making a longer visit with her
parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Mer
cer in Nashville.
Mrs. William Schroder returned ;
to her home in Yong’s Island, S. C.
Miss Linda Lee, Pembroke, and
Miss Marilyn Cannady, Eilabell,
returned Monday from a visit of
several days with Mr. and Mrs.
George Durner in Asheville, N. C.
Recent guests of Mrs. J. Gordon
Bacon and Mrs. R. B. Reed were

Rouge. La. and Mr. and Mrs. C. C.

The Rev. and Mrs. Edwin Bar
ton are vacationing in Morganton,

Mr. and Mrs. A. I. Rhoden re
turned Sunday from a two weeks
vacation with their daughters and
families in Jacksonville and Oi
lando, Florida.
The young man is now stationed
at Seymour-Johnson Air Force
