The Pembroke high school
basketball teams got off to a good
start last Friday afternoon by
winning both games of a double
header from the Richmond Hill
high school team. The games were
played at Richmond Hill.
The Halloween spooks and gob
lins will be in their glory next
Thursday evening at the high
school gym in Pembroke. The
Parent - Teacher Association is
sponsoring a Halloween Carnival
at this time and the proceeds from
this affair will be used to buy
kitchen equipment. There will be
« small admission charge. ‘
The Pembroke Garden Club held
its regular meeting at the com
munity house Friday afternoon,
October 18. |
Mrs. J. T. Shaw, president, had
charge of the prorgam. Mrs.
R. L. Henderson gave a talk on
the seasons and their natural
beauties, especially the Fall, which
gave the maidens of old their ideas
and ingredients for their cosmetics.
Mrs. J. D. Harn gave a talk on
the care of dahlia bulbs and other
garden hints.
Mrs. W. R. Deal conducted a
contest in which the questions were
answered with names of trees,
vegetables or flowers. Mrs. R. Lt
Henderson won the prize,
The Executive Committee of the
Evans-Bryan Boy Scout Distriet
held its meeting Tuesday night
at 7:30 at Bacon’s Case.

Later we plan to use some of them
to help decorate our booth for the
Halloween Carnival. w
We are looking forward to Fri
day afternoon when we will go to
the gymnasium to see a basketball
game.

On Thursday, Eli Cohen, exe

Youth, is speaking on “The Rela
tionship between the Drop-Out
Problem and the Unomp]oyment}
of Youth.”
Also on Thursday is the pro
gram on “The Product of the
Public School in Business and In
dustry.” Completing the day’s
meetings will be a talk on “Adult
Education in Public Schools;” a
report on the results of a read
ing survey conducted last year;
and a talk by Leo Aikman, colum
nist for The Atlanta Constitution.

in School Plant Planning with

Fellowship Supper
To Honor Former

bers of the Ellabell Methodist
Church in honor of a former pas
tor and his wife.
All members of the church are
expected to attend the supper and

dolph Starling who is spending the
weekend at Meldrim,
Mr. Starling will preach at
Homecoming services of the Meld
rim Methodist Church Sunday
morning to which Ellabell Metbo-‘

Starling family are invited.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams,
Blitchton, announce the birth of
a daughter, Glenda Kay, on Fri
day, October 12, at Bulloch Coun
ty Hospital in Statesboro, The
little girl weighed six pounds,
eight ounced.
Mr. and Mrs, Williams also have
a son, Glennis, one year old,

union was held Sunday, October
21, at Esla: School with some 125
relatives and friends attending.
The delightful day was spent. in
pleasant fellowship and is one
which will be long remembered by

The regular meeting of Harville
W. M. S. met Monday night at
7 o'clock at the church. After a
business meeting, with the presi
dent, Mrs. Reeves Hoyle, in charge,
there was an interesting program.
This being the beginning of the
75th anniversary of W. M, U., a
skit giving the past, present and
future of the organization was
presented, Mrs. B, F. Woodward
recalled the past, Mrs. Morgan
gave the present, and Norma Jean
Woodward, a junior G, A., told of
the future. The meeting was well
attended. Afterwards, Mr. and
Mrs. Hoyle served fruit cake and
coffee.

and Miss Amelia Waters attended
the annual State FFA Rally in
Macon on Saturday, October 20.
At the rally, Raymond Waters
was named the Star Georgia Plant
er from southeast Georgia. This
award gave him a trip to the‘
National Convention in XKansas
City, Mo. Raymond accompanied
his family home for the weekend
before returning to Abrahamn
Baldwin College.
