laws of Georgia, a certain Security
deed to the following described prop
erty:
ATT, that certain tract or parcel of
land, together with all improvements
thereon situate, lying and being in the
19th G.M. District, Bryan County.
Georgia, starting at a point on the
West side of the Lee Public Road at
a point common to the Northern boun
dary of lands of Bill Hughes and. run
ning along the Western edge ot said
Lee Road for a distance of seventy
(70) yards to a stake, thence in a
Westerly direction for a distance of
seventy’ (70) yards on a line at right
angles from said road to a stake;
thence in a Southerly direction for a
distance of seventy (70) yards on a
line parallel to said Lee Road to a
stake on the Northern boundary line
of lands of said Bill Hughes, and
thence in an Easterly direction along
the Northern boundary line of said
Hughes for a distance of seventy (70)
yards to a stake on the Western side
of said Lee Road, the point of begin
ning. Said lot of land is bound on the
North and West by other lands of
Rufus H. Bacon; on the South by lands
of Bill Hughes; and on the East by
said Lee Road.
THIS BEING the same tract or par
cel of land conveyed to L. W. Lee from
Rufus H. Bacon by Deed dated April
8, 1961 and recorded in the Office of
the Clerk of the Superior Court for
Bryan County. Georgia.
To secure an indebtedness evidenced
by a promissory note dated 12-6-61,
which security deed is recorded in the
Office of the Clerk of Superior Court
of Bryan County, Georgia, in Deed
Book 3-J. Pages 474-5-6. and subse
quently assigned to FAMILY MORT
GAGE COMPANY, by assignment
dated 12-6-61 and recorded in Deed
Book 3-J. Pages 474-5-6 of said County

WHEREAS, default has occurred in
the payment of siad indebtedness ac
cording to the terms of the said note
and security deed, authorizing the ex
ercise of the power of sale contained
therein;
NOW. THEREFORE, Pursuant to the
terms of the said security deed, the
note secured thereby, and in exercise
of the power of sale contained therein,
the undersigned will offer for sale to
the highest bidder for cash at public
outcry, the above described Property
on the First Tuesday in December be

WOMEN TO MEET
An organizational meeting of
the Young Women’s Auxiliary of
the Pembroke Baptist Church has
been planned for this week, ac
cording to Mrs. W. W. Curl. Jr.,
president of the Women’s Mis
sionary Union of the Church.
The Y. W. A. has been inactive
recently and at the meeting on
Thursday night at 7 o’clock church
leaders hope it can be reorganized.
Meeting with the young women
at the church will be Mrs. Paul
Abernathy and Miss Olivia Speir.
Ale and Mrs. Clark Anderson
left the first of the week for Lin
coln, Nebraska, where Ale Ander
son will be stationed with the Air
Force. They had been visiting
relatives in Pembroke.

Chosen for U. S.
Jury Duty
A 29-member grand jury panel
and a 58-member petit jury panel
have been selected for the two
week term of U. S. District Court
that opens in Savannah in No
vember.
Sounding of the civil docket and
assigning of cases for trial will
occupy the first day of the term.
Persons called for jury duty are
to report at 10 a.m. November 13.
Trial of criminal cases will oc
cupy the first week of the term,
and trial of civil cases will occupy
the second week.
As near as could be determined
three Bryan countians have been
summoned for grand jury duty.
They are A. A. Martin, Richmond
Hill, and H. D. Griner and H. H.
Hagan, Pembroke.
Nobody in the county was called
for the petit jury duty.
H. D. Council to
Meet Nov. 9 with
Block Creek Club
The Black Creek Home Dem
onstration Club will be hostess on
Friday, November 9, to the Bryan
County Home .Demonstration
Council. The meeting will con
vene at 10:45 A.M. at the social
center of Lanier Baptist Church.
Miss Coleta Loper, home dem
onstration agent announced that
a guest speaker will be present to
talk about holiday foods, includ
ing foods for both the Thanksgiv
ing and Christmas seasons.
At the business session officers
will be nominated anil elected.
Places to be filled are president,
Ist, 2nd, and 3rd vice presidents,
secretary, treasurer, 4-11 advisors,
and project chairmen.
Lunch will be served at noon by
the Black Creek Club.

TALK AT R. HILL
BROTHERHOOD
A Richmond Hill High School
faculty member was the main
speaker on Tuesday night of last
week at the meeting of the
Brotherhood of the Richmond Hill
Baptist Church.
Bobby Wilson’s talk was on Com
munism. He compared the people
of Communist dominated coun
tries of the present time with the
conquered Jews of the sixth cen
tury before Christ.
The young man teaches science
at Richmond Hill,
Miss Sandra Waldrop, Colum
bus, was the week-end guest of Mr.
and Mrs. W. W. Curl, Jr. and W.
W. Curl, 111. Miss Waldrop is a
student at Mercer University.

Last week Mr. Medders and I
were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T.
Stubbs at Jekyll Island for the
Georgia Farm Bureau Convention.
We want to express our thanks to
the Stubbs for such a nice place
to spend the free time that the
onvention allowed us.
H. D. Club Meetings
Those clubs which met this week
were the recipients of a demon
stration on “Holiday Foods.” This
included some tips on how to
‘dress-up” that ham or chicken
>r turkey that you will be having
n a few days for Thanksgiving.
The Blueberry Club will meet
m November 15th at Mrs. Marion
Edenfeild’s home in Richmond
Hill. Each club member is urged
to bring an idea with her for mak
ing foods more festive on holidays.
4-H Club Meetings
The Bryan County High 4-H
Clubs will meet on November 13th
at their regularly scheduled meet
ing time and the Richmond Hill
Clubs will do the same on the 14th.

day, November 9th at 10:45 A.M.

Soil Fertility
We are in the process of begin
ning (officially) our Soil Fertility
Program in Bryan County. Many
of you already know that this pro
gram is being taken to the schools
and to the Farm Bureau members.
We are pleased that you are al
ready beginning to take soil sam
ples in your gardens and in your
yards.
On November 16th at 7:30 P.M.
the leaders of this county will
tgather for a supper and the begin
ning steps of our program will be
taken.
Dr. Irving Wofford and Dr. R.
L. Beecher will be the guest speak
ers and other people concerned
with this program will be present.
Those who are to be present will
be contacted soon.
Trips
The Farm Bureau Convention
took Mr. Medders and me out of
the county on October 29th-31st.
We each spent part of this time at
the fair in Savannah.
I was out »f the county on No
vember 3rd for help on a future
TV Program and to observe one
taking place.
Farm Bureau Essays
The winners of the essay con
test in the county are Ist place.
Nita Buhler; 2nd place, Bill Burp
itt; and 3rd place, Phyllis Wolfe.
I want to commend them for the
nice job they did in writing their
essays on “The Role of Youth in
Highway Safety.” This essay was
■ sponsored by the Women’s Com
mittee of the Bryan County Farm
Bureau. Your H. D. A., Coleta B.

Bryan County boys attend the
Ag Alumni Association’s first
‘Careers in Agriculture Day” at
the University’s College of Agri
> culture on November 10.
The program will begin with
'registration at 9:30 a.m. The brief
I formal program starts at 10:00.
Then from 10:30 to 12:30 and
from 1:30 to 3:30, the boys, di
vided into groups, will tour all the
various departments of the Col
lege. They will have lunch at
12:30. Then the College staff will
be available until 4:30 in their re
spective departments for individu
al visits by any interested boys.
The County Agent will take
Jimmy Murphy, Jim Harn, Clay
ton Burnsed, Lance Hilliard, and
William Edwards.
Farm Bureau Essay Winners
Nita Buhler won Ist place in
the Bryan County Farm Bureau
u Essay Contest which entitled her
essay to be sent to the district to
be judged where she placed 2nd in
district. The Women’s Committee
of the Bryan County Farm Bu
reau, Miss Anne Parrish, chair
man, sponsored this contest and
is giving $5.00 to the Ist place
winner, Nita Buhler. Bill Burpitt
won 2nd in the county and will
receive $3.00, the third place win
ner, Phyllis Wolfe, will receive
$2.00. We wish to recognize these
youths for the part they are tak
ing in the activities in the com
munity. Each essay sent in was
very good and many thoughts were
expressed in these essays on “The
Role of Youth in Highway Safety.”
4-H Boys Receive Awards
At Coastal Empire Fair
John Coursey and Rickey Page,
members of the Chatham, Effing
ham, and Bryan Counties Metro
politan Kiwanis Club Pig Chain,
consisting of the Beltsville Breed
and a total of 6 projects, entered
their pigs in the Coastal Empire
Fair. John Coursey won Ist place
in the chain. In addition to the
chain these two 4-H’ers entered
the Bacon Class Open Show, which
included all bacon type breeds.
John won Ist place in this class
and Rickey won Sth. The guilts
will belong to these 4-H’ers after
they have returned two pigs at
weaning age back into the chain.
Franklin Dowd, a member of
the exchange Beef Heifer Club,
consisting of the Hereford Breed
and 7 projects, won sth place and
in the 4-H Club Open Show Two-
Year Beef Heifer Class, he won
3rd place. This completes two
showings of Franklin’s calf in the
fair, thus completing his obliga
tions to the Exchange Club and
the heifer now belongs to Franklin.
Mrs. Hendricks Is
Hostess to Mattie
Parrish Circle
Members of the Mattie Parrish
Circle of the Woman’s Missionary
Society of the Pembroke Baptist
Church met on Tuesday afternoon
of last week at the home of Mrs.
G. Frank Hendricks.
The devotional and program
were given by Mrs. Hendricks. The
emblem of the WMU organization
was the basis of Mrs. Hendricks’
talk which was made more impres
sive by an enlarged drawing of
the emblem. The significance of
each part of the emblem was dis
cussed.
Also circle chairman, Mrs. Hen
dricks presided at the business ses
sion at which routine reports were
given.
During the fellowship period she
served delicious refreshments.

Bacon, Miss Wilma Edwards, Miss
Lula MaGahee. Mrs. J. O. Strick

Bryan High Opens
Cage Season with
Double Victory
Although a trifle shook at the
first game of the season, the
Bryan County High School boys
and girls teams soon settled their
nerves and defeated Oak Park in
a double victory played on the
home court to a gymnasium full of
enthusiastic fans.
Although the score was tied at
the half-time, Oak Park trailed
the Redskins to the end of the
line with a result of 42-27, High
man for the local team was Ralph
Akins with 16 points, followed by
Jimmy Murphy with 10.
The Bryan girls scored a 22-17
victory with Kay DeLoach lead
ing the team for 11 points.
H. D. Council
Has Exhibit in
Coastal Fair
An attractive exhibit arranged
by the Bryan County Home De
monstration Council was on dis
play at the Coastal Empire Fair
last week.
Representatives from each club
assisted with the planning and
setting up of the exhibit which
had for its theme “Papa Comes
to Dinner.” Also helping was
Miss Coleta Loper, home demon
stration gent.
Business houses cooperating
with the council in furnishing ma
terial for the exhibit were Pem
broke Motor Company, Harn’s
Variety Store and Star Depart
ment, according to home demon
stration club members who help
ed with the project.
The exhibit demonstrated the
importance of a balanced meal for
all members of the family, depart
ment store dummies being used for
the members of the family gather
ed around the table.
The exhibit was a credit to the
Council and to each individual
club which participated in setting
it up.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Strickland
and children, Brunswick, visited
relatives and friends ni Pembroke
during the week-end.
