Services Are Mon.
For Sister of
Blitchton Woman
Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel
Carr Schneider, 65, who died Fri
day morning of last week at her
home in Savannah after a short
illness, were held Monday morn
ing at 11 o’clock at the Cathedral
of St. John the Baptist in Savan
nah. A rosary service was held
Sunday night at the Irvine Hen
derson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Keiffer
McClelland, Bruce Render, Al
Render, Jr., Bill Mooney, Jr., Wil
liam F. Sims, and William C. Carr,
Jr. Burial was at Hillcrest Abbey
Memorial Park,
Mrs. Schneider was the sister of
Mrs. Maggie McClelland of Blitch
ton.
Surviving are her husband, Wil
liam P, Schneider, Savannah; two
other sisters, Mrs. Gladys Hurst
and Mrs. A. J. Bullard, Savannah;
three brothers, A. J. Carr, Willie
C. Carr and Walton Carr, all of
Savannah.
Mrs. Schneider suffered two
heart attacks on the morning of
her death. She was preparing to
attend the funeral of a relative
when stricken. A native of South
Carolina, she had lived in Savan
nah most of her life.

Mr. and Mrs. Cloyce Martin and
children and Mr. and Mrs. H. H.
Zetterower were Saturday night
supper guests of Mr. and Mrs.
William Cromley.
Mrs. Cleve Newton, Savannah,
spent the weekend with her
mother, Mrs. J. H. Griner. They
visited Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Ginn
and family at Sandersville, Mr. and
Mrs. M. E. Ginn at Statesboro, and
also relatives in Oliver.
Mrs. Leslie NeSmith, Nevils,
visited Mr. and Mrs. Emeral
Lanier during the week.
Little Michael Harris was a pat
ient at Bulloch County Hospital
last week. Others who have been
in the hospital are George White
who ras returned home and Mrs.
A. G. Rocker who has also re
turned home and is improving.
Miss DeLore* Williams, Mercer
University, spent the past week
end with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Williams.
Mi.s Amelia Waters, Georgia
Southern College, spent the week
end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Morgan Waters.
We regret to report that Jake
Moxley is a patient in Bulloch Co
unty Hospital. We wish him a
speedy recovery.
Negro Schools to
Observe Teacher
Appreciation Day

Teacher Appreciation will be
observed by Mill Creek Elementary
and Pembroke High School, on
Tuesday, January 2D, 7:30 P.M.
at Pembroke High School gym
nasium.
On thia night all teachers of
both schools will be honored and
a "Teacher of the Year" named by
the Teacher of the Year Commit
tee. All parents and friends as
well as many special guests have
been invited. The teacher of the
Year committee ia Mrs. Lula
Garrison, Chairman; Mrs. Lollie
O. Cook, Mrs. Thelma Campbell,
Frank Blackshear and Jimmie
Simmons.
Winners of this year’s Teacher
of the Year” from both schools will
compete on the County level at a
later date.

Funeral services were held
Thursday in Reidsville for Mrs.
Florence Rebecca McCall, 69, who
died Wednesday morning of last
Week in a Savani ah hospital after
u short illness.
Mrs. McCall wm the sister of
K. F. Sharp* of Richmond Hill.
A native of Ta tnall County, she
was the widow of F. E. McCall,
and the daughtet of the late Mr.
and Mrs. H. 11. Sharpe.
Interment was in Reidsville City
Cemetery.

Bacon regret to learn that die has
been confined to her bed for the
past several days because of ill
ness.
Planning Day Is
Held by Bryan
H. D. Council
A planning day was held on
Monday, January 14, by the Bryan
County Home Demonstration Coun
cil at the home of Mrs. A. A. Mar
tin in Richmond Hill.
The meeting was to plan the
1963 yearbook, meeting dates and
places for the council, demonstra
tions to be given by Miss Coleta
। Loper, home demonstration agent,
and to elect Council officers for
, 1963.
The new officers are Mrs. A. A.
Martin, president; Mrs. Leslie
' Long, Ist vice president; Mrs.
Sammie Williams, 2nd vice presi
dent; Mrs. J. W. Miller, 3rd vice
president; and Mrs. J. T. Stubbs,
। treasurer. The secretary will be
. elected at a later time.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mag
gie Mitchell, 71, of Wilmington Is
land, were held Saturday after
noon at 3 o’clock at Red Hill Ceme
tery in Bulloch County. Officiat
ing was Elder Roy R. Sims of the
Atlantic Primitive Baptist Church
in Savannah.
Pallbearers were J. H. Lynch,
Bennie Smith, 11. A. Combs, M. A.
Waters, M. E. Davis und C. L.
Smith.
Mrs. Mitchell was the sister of
E. F. Denmark, Pembroke, Bul
loch County. Also surviving are
a daughter, Mra. Juanita Donald
son; a son, Alfonso Mitchell; a
sister, Mrs. T. L. Wise; a grand
daughter; and three great-grand
children.
Mrs. Mitchell died Thursday
night of last week at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Savannah after a short
illness.
A native of Bulloch County, she
hud lived in Savannah for many
years. She was the widow of
Uriar Mitchell and was a member
of the Atlantic Primitive Baptist
Church.

Funeral services were conduct
ed Monday morning at 11 o'clock
for Peyton I^e Morgan, 73, who
died Friday of last week at a
Jacksonville, Florida, hospital after
a short illness. Officiating at the
service which was held at the
chapel of the Hardage & Son Fun
eral Home was Dr. Baker of a
Jacksonville Baptist Church. In
terment was in Riverside Memorial
Park in Jacksonville.
A native of Ellabell, Mr. Mor
gan lived in Savannah about 25
years before moving to Jackson
ville. He was retinal from a cloth
ing firm.

to attend the 4-H Council Meet
ing this coming Saturday, Jan.
26th.

The Blueberry Club has changed
its name to the Richmond Hill
Home Demonstration Club. At the
Jan. 17th meeting, held at Mrs.
Sara Scott’s home in Richmond
Hill, the Richmond Hill Club re
ceived a new member, Mrs. Myra
Carpenter.
Next week on January 28th the
Pembroke H. D. Club will meet
with Mrs. Estelle Burkhalter. The
Black Creek H. D. Club has been
changed to Jun 29th and will meet
with Mrs. J. W. Edwards.
H. D. COUNCIL
The Council met at Mrs. A. A.
Martin’s home in Keller for the
Planning Meeting for the year’s
activities. Twelve persons were
present for this meeting.
4-H COUNCIL
The 26th of January, this Sat
urday, will be the Achievement and
Council Meeting of the Bryan
County 4-H Council. It will meet
at the Legion Hall at 10:30 A.M.
Each 4-H member is invited to at
tend and bring a picnic lunch to
eat after the meeting. Mr. Med
ders and I are looking for you to
come — we will elect the 4-H coun
cil officers during the business
meeting.
OUT-OF-TOWN MEETINGS
Mr. Medders and I will be in
Savannah for the second session
of the Personal Civil Defense Sur
vival Meeting on Jan. 24th. We

Birthday Party
Kay Bazemore was guest of
honor at a party given Thursday,
January 17, on the occasion of her
tenth birthday. Hosts at the de
lightful affair which was held at
their home were her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. H. T. Bazemore.
Assisting Mrs. Bazemore with
entertaining and serving were
Miss Brenda Bazemore and Miss
Jeanie Beardglee. Included in the
refreshments was the beautifully
decorated birthday cake. Kay re
ceived many lovely gift during
the afternoon.
Sharing the refreshments with
Kay and her guests was her father
whose birthday is the same date.

For Brother of
Pembroke Man
Funeral services were held Mon
day afternoon at 3 o’clock at
Flemington Presjbyterian Church
for Edward Leroy (Roy) Miles,
47, who died Saturday night at
his home in Flemington after a
short illness. Officiating were
the Rev. lewis Bullard and the
Rev. Frank Herrington. Inter
ment was in the Flemington Ceme
tery.
Mr. Miles was well known in
Pembroke, where he visited often
with his brother, E. W. Miles, and
in other sections of the county.
He was employed as a maintenance
assistant to the State Highway
Department and was road super
intendent of Liberty County for
20 years. He had previously ser
ved as a lieutenant colonel on the
governor’s staff. He was a mem
ber of the Allenhurst Presbyterian
Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Sydnea Keel Miles, Flemington; a
son, Michael Miles, Atlanta; three
brothers, E. W. Miles, Pembroke, I
Elmer Miles, Hinesville, and Al-1
bert Miles, Savannah; and four'
sisters, Mrs. Albertha Coleman,
Ludowici, Mrs. Casper Long.
Hinesville, Mrs. Paul Turk, Allen
hurst, and Mrs. Herman Stafford,
Ludowici.
Pallbearers were Hammond Eve,
W. W. Miller, James McLean, Carl
Dykes, R. V. Sikes, nad John
Frank Browning.
Sgt. and Mre. Ray Jones and
children are leaving this week for
Albany where Sgt. Jones will la
stationed al Turner Air Force
Base.

Beulah Church to
Observe Baptist
Men's Day
Baptist Men’s Day will be ob
served Sunday at Beulah Baptist
Church, at which time men of the
church will have complete charge
of the morning and night services.
Speaker for the morning pro
gram will be W. J. (Bill) Butler,
and for the night service will be
L. F. Sanders, president of the
Brotherhood, and C. C. Sheffield.
Special emphasis will be given to
the work of men in the church.
Since the organization of the
Brotherhood at Beulah much good
has been accomplished at the
church, with other things being |
planned ’by "the men’s group.
Sunday is Men’s Day through
out the Georgia Baptist Conven
tion.
Mr. and Mrs. Rex Waters and
daughters, and Mrs. T. 1.. Waters
were weekend guests of Mr. and
I Mrs. Thomas Waters in Raeburn,
IN. C. Returning home with them
was little Ashley Waters who will
spend a while with his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L.

Shower Is Given
For Burned Out
Ellabell Family
Mr. and Mrs. George Strickland
and family were the recipients of
many nice gifts at the shower
given by Mrs. J. H. Carter on
Friday night of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Strickland had the
misfortune of losing their home,
and much of their furniture and
belongings by fire earlier in the
week.
Mrs. Strickland expressed deep
appreciation for the kindness of
friends who have helped them in
their emergency.
During the evening Mrs. Carter
| served delicious refreshments.
