The Pembroke Journal
Pembroke, Georgia |
Dear Editor Miller:
Back home in Maryland after
a most pleasant stay in hospi
table Bryan County. After a
two year absence. I was parti
.cularly impressed by your
growth in population and in- |
dustry. As I told you during
our conversation, I think the 1
residents of your county are !
among the finest pople I have
met. They are polite and |
friendly and I always feel at ‘
home in your section. |
As a veteran of some fifty
odd years in the newspaper
business, I want to congratulate
you on your contribution to
“the betterment of Bryan Co
unty. Our talk in your office
was very rewarding because it
gave me a quick picture of the
efforts underway to get new
industry and to better the eco
omy of the area.
It was with a sense of nost
algia that I visited Hotel De-
Soto in Savannah. The razing
of the historic structure re
| moves a landmark. I spent a
number of pleasant hours in
this fine hotel and received the
most courteous treatment in ad
dition to fine food and accom
modations.
I happened to be in Rich
mond visiting my son, Neill, Jr.
when the schoolhouse explosion
occurred. How fortynate it was
that no one was injured. 1
saw the damage in the cafe
teria and can say that those
in the building had a narrow
escape.
My wife and I want to be
remembered to your charming
wife. On a previous visit we
were graciously received at your
lovely home,
We are looking forward to
another visit next to Richmond
Hill where my son and wife
and grandchildren, Anne and
Carol reside. :
Best luck to you and best
wishes.
Sincerely,

Good Water?
One service to individuals of
this county by the Health De
partment is the water survey
of private wells. This survey
is done when the owner of a
well located at his home request
a water sample,
Why have a sample of your
water? “The well has been
there for years and no one has
become ill.” This is what most
people say when you ask them
to get a water sample. A man
forty years old could ask the
1l same thing about a chest X-ray.
His lungs have been with him
from birth and never gave him
any trouble. The ;t-ray shows
if he has any trouble or pos
sible trouble. This is the same
reason for a water survey of
your well.
' You notice the words “Water
Survey” where used. When you
call the sanitarian to come to
your home, he does just what
the title “Water survey” im
plies. He compares the loca
tion of the well to all sewage,
ground water Jevel, depth of
well, area around well and a
sample of the water is taken
and mailed to the laboratory to
find its bacteriological count.
What does this ]abm-atoryi
| report show? The first fact‘
1 shown is if the well has any
bacterial growth present. If |
{ you have the growth present it |
j shows you have a future pos
;sibility of getting sick from
| the well water.
l The sanitarian can then help |
! :votf work to obtain a well that |
i 1S In a sanitary condition, like ,
| a doctor who finds a person |
{ has a possibility of being sick
| can help the person kept from |
| the possible sickness or like a |
| typhoid shot can keep you from |
| becoming sick of typhoid. 7
i Your sanitarian is here to
| help. Give him a call at the
i Health Center when you need '
his services, ¢

Just Come Qut
The new Telephone Directory
for the Pembroke Telephone
Company for the year 1966 has
just been completed, and we
consider it the nicest one that
we have ever gotten out. The
Journal sold the ads and got
the book out and we are proud
of our job. We hope that there
are no errors, and that there
will not be any kicks, but it
'is next to impossible to get out
'a phone directory and please |
every one, for people are con- |
stantly getting phones, getting |
new numbers and even by the ‘
time the directory is out, there |
are names that are not in the [
directory. People who knew that ‘
{it was coming out, just hesitat- |

ter, but just failed to do it [
snow it is too late and they wil !
{have to wait another year, be. |

Bulloch County Hospital where
she was carried the last of last

gone an ‘operation and many
tests, and has a number of doc
tors and nurses trying to locate
her troubles.
Mrs. Bacon was taken sud
denly at her home in Pembroke
and was rushed to the hospital
by Morrisons Ambulance. Due
to her age, her condition is
causing some concern to the
family and her many friends
here.
She had the misfortune of
being in the hospital on her
81st birthday, and the Journal
joins her many other friends
in wishing for her a speedy re
covery and an early return to
her home here,
Mrs. Bacon is very active in
the affairs of the First Bap

she is not there.
The Journal has carried a
story before that che was one
of Bryan’s best loved ladies and
we can still say that, as we
look upon her as being among
the best of the ladies of our

Two racy new

A clean-sculptured new sport

—a 4-door Chevelle Sport
Sedan. Pick from 12 racy-look
ing new Chevelles in all for '66.
Not only will you find more
variety in the '66 Chevelle
lineup, but even more of what
makes a Chevelle a Chevelle.
Say you pick a new Malibu

new 220-hp VB. You've got
yourself quite a machine.
Or pick a Malibu Sport
Coupe, equip it with the new
Strato-bucket front seats,
and order the new 275-hp VB.
You’ve got yourself even
more machine,
Or maybe you'd like to
pick a new black-grilled SS
396 Coupe or Convertible.
(Standard engine is a Turbo-
Jet 396 V 8 with 325 hp. And
there’s also a 860-hp version
you can specify.) Now you’ve
got yourself the most,.
Which '66 Chevelle for

covers a lot more ground than
we can here. And that’s
where your Chevrolet dealer
