Lest We Forget.
We don’t think sometimes, be¬
cause we don’t know what to
think, and sometimes ive forget
Oeeauso “none are perfect,” and
sometimes we forget because we
don't want to remember, so we
have to bo reminded,occasionally,
that the host results in any un¬
dertaking are obtained by-re
spo ding to the requirements
“Los we forget.”
Winter is about here, and had
roads, rough weather and pennies
will sopn be the citise of rural
mail carriers reciting their Sun¬
day school lesson daily, so it is to
be hoped that a gentle hint will
not he out of place.
First, thepostofflee department
looks to the patrons of rural free
delivery service to keep the roads
in passable condition, and car¬
riers are obligated to report
roads not so kept. Good roads
are one of th„e most important of
the common interests of any
community, There are some
roads in the county covered by
rural routes that never heard of
the “Four day law” or any other
road law.
Next to good roads for the good
of the service comes the dis¬
charge of the corresponding du¬
ties of carrier and patron. It is
pleasant to think of the good
time a carrier lias as he drives
along in his buggy and up to a
box, erected, for convenience, on
the corner of the fence, or bursts
a bub against a post that leans
the wrong way like the Irish¬
man’s tree, and alights with one
foot on the wheel, pulls off his
gloves and spends two or three
minutes, in the rain, fishing out
pennies $y,veh accompany the
letters fof dispatch. It is to the
interest of patrons to keep on
hand a supply of stamps in ad¬
vance of their needs, for by tak¬
ing several they can be bought
for two cents each, and for 58
cents you can buy 25 stamped
envelopes, and if bought from
Murray carriers, stamps, postal
cards or stamped envelopes will
be delivered at your box. Be
sure to wrap change in paper be¬
fore leaving in box. Don’t for¬
get that carriers are not allowed
to carry packages weighing under
four pounds if mailable unless
accompanied by a sufficient
amount to pay postage. If your
box has no letter rack in it,stand
your letters on end.
The signal on the mail box is
for the convenience of the carrier,
s
is a vlolation of the federal law.
One minute lost at each box on
a route of forty boxes in the win
