A WOLF CHASE.
Writes Texas Man Who Thinks They
Are too Affectionate.
Well, here I am in Heawleman
Co., Texas, and will say that l
ne ver saw a finer looking fanning
country. But there are some
things here that 1 do not
altogether like and some that
are alright.
The thing that I dislike mostly
are the wolves, for they are too
impertinent, they will occasion
ally come too close to a
Three came into the Held to see
personally and as this was my
firsfc view of the gentlemen I (lid
not want to let them get too
close, for I had no firing piece
with me, so I took my horses and
went toward the house, and kept
a safe distance from them the
vest of the day.
On another day after 1 had
become more acquainted with
tiieir ways—a little braver, I had
another call from one while plow -
ing, so I unhitched ^ Mr. Sampler’s
favor . te pony bucky) and
thought I would give him acluise.
Well, away we went across the
prairie, Chueky making about
GO miles an hour and the wolf
doing his best, but we. were seen
overtaken and in order to escape
made a nil her abrupt turn, it
seemed that every muscle in tins
little trained pony contracted at
once and on doing so, 1 felt as if
I had suddenly turned to an air
ship, the part I was acting for
took a nice little sail through the
air a distance something less
than -10 feet and of course landed
on the ground. After picking
myself up, 1 spied Mr. wolf 800
yards away going at a fast speed,
think he had an idea that I was
trying to jump on him and
came a little frightened.
I think it is tine sport to single
one out and run him, but it rat
ties my nerves for three or
to come slipping around mt
looking hungry.
Well I will close for this time,
by asking the Murray boy?
come out and try the wolves a
chase with me.
