WORKS DAMAGE
Wrecks Have Occurred on Two Rail¬
roads, Canal Overflows Its Banks,
Large Dam Washed Away, Mills
Flooded and Country Damaged.
Augusta, Ga'., June 16,—Re¬
ports from all outlying districts
which continue to come in, indi¬
cate severe damage throughout
5he entire territory contiguous to
Augusta from the heavy rainfall
of the past three days. Practi¬
cally every railroad entering
Augusta, steam and electric, has
suffered more or less, and all
traffic is either considerably de¬
layed or suffering inconvenience.
All streams are greatly swollen
a id country as well as railroad
bridges have been affected, sev¬
eral of the former having been
washed away.
The rainfall this morning
amounted to practically a cloud
burst, causing an overflow of the
canal which runs through the
City m three levels, at one point
washing away a considerable por
t >n of the bank. The interurban

Aiken has been considerably
dim tged from washouts and <e

Two railroad wrecks have oc

road 11 miles from the city, where
the engine and two ci.rs of a
freight train ran into a washout,

LARGE DAM BREAKS.
The large dam at Ole. rw .ter,

operated, was broken. In
city the lower weave room of the
Sibley mills was flooded.
On the Augusta Southern road,
between Augusta and Sanders
ville, two large washouts are re
ported ; near Beall Springs and
one smaller washout nearer Au

RAIN DOES IRREPARABLE DAMAGE.
Savannah, Ga.,June 10. Rains
have been heavy and continuous
in this vicinity for several days.
Today brought the heaviest fall
yet recorded for^ this peiioi ot
wet weather, 2.i9 inches being
registered.
Planters are complaining of
almost irreparable damage hav
ing been . inflicted ...... upon their ,,
crops. Among the heaviess losers
are the rice planters along the
Savannah, Altamaha and Satilla
rivers.
Crops in the Waycross section
are reported to have been coin¬
pletely destroyed.
A number of the railroads of
this territory report washouts.
i'rains on all have been delayed,
while on some of the new short
lines, where road beds had not
s ttled. service has been suspend
ed until rep airs c an be effected.
