Nearly all the telephones in the
county were disabled by light¬
ning during recent storms.
Dr. Luck, who married Miss
Sallie Peeples less than a year
ago, died of fever last week in
Nashville, Mrs. Luck has many
friends in Murray county who
deeply sympathize with her.
Miss Annie Steed, of Eton, is
on an extended visit to relatives
in the West.
Miss Lena Keith is visiting in
Dalton this week.
The postoffice here went into
operation July 2, and for a short
time will be kept at the residence
of W. R. Davis, near the church.

WILD CAR CAUSES
WRECK AT MILNER
Heavy Loaded Car Dashes Down Track
Into Fart Freight—F.njtin

Milner, (la., July 4.—A car
heavily loaded with coal became
detached from a train here yes¬
terday afternoon at 2 o’clock,
when flying back down the Cen¬
tral road and met a fast freight
one and half miles below here,
wrecking the car and partial!y
wrecking the engine that was
pulling the fast freight.
Engineer Crosby was hurt by
jumping and falling on his Itead.
He complained also of severe
pains in the hack and stumache.
A negro fireman was seriously
hurt and the flagman slightly
hurt.
A brakeman happened to be on
the loose car but the brakes fail¬
ed to work, its all the way
down grade several miles below
here, and so nothing to impede
the speed of the Hying par. The
grade, however, was in favor of
the train, but could not be stop¬
ped iu time owing to a sharp
curv in the road where it met the
loose car.
