Cotton Crop Estimated at 1,372,000
1,372,000 bales.
' The first estimate for the
Georgia cotton crop of 1906 was
set at the above number today,
by Commissioner of Agriculture
T. G. Hudson.
This is 878.000 bales less than
the crop for 1005.
The condition of the crop is
reported at 71 1 3 per cent, as
against 85 per cent, for the cor¬
responding period of 1905.
These estimates were made
today and announced by the de
partment of agriculture, based
on a thousand reports from the
145 counties in Georgia.

1,000 correspondents in the state
asking for crop conditions and

Atlanta, July 31.
Whereas, The General Assem¬
bly, at its session in 1006, pro¬
posed an amendment to the Con¬
stitution of this (State, asset forth
in an Act approved July81,1900,
to wit:
A bill to be entitled an Act to
propose to the qualified electors
of this Htate, an amendment
to paragraph 2 of section j of
article 11 of the Constitution
of this Htate as amended by
the ratification by the quali¬
fied voters of tins State of the
Act approved July 19, 1904,
and for other purposes.
Section 1. Be it enacted by
the General Assembly of Georgia,
That the following amendment is
hereby proposed to paragraph 2 ,
section 1, article 11 of the Con¬
stitution of this State, as amend¬
ed by the ratification by the
qualified voters of tins State of
t he Act of July 19, 1904, to wit,
by adding to said paragraph the
“Provided, however, that in
addition to the counties now pro¬
vided for by this Constitution,
there shall be a new county laid
out from the counties of Irwin
and Wilcox, -bounded as follows:
‘Beginning at the point where
the south line of land lot No. 167
in the third district of Wilcox
county crosses the Alapaha river,
and running due east along the
said south line to the northeast
corner of land lo’’ 159 in the
third district of Irwin county;
thence north to the northeast
corner of land lot 172 in the third
district of Wilcox county; thence
east to the northeast corner of
land lot No. 174 in the third dis¬
trict of Irwin county; thence
south to the northeast corner of

east to the northeast corner of

third district of Wilcox county,
and thence west along the north
line of said laud lot 255 and the
district lines between the first
and third districts in the said
county of Wilcox to the Alapaha
river, and thence in a southerly
direction along the said Alapaha
river to the starting point.’
“That Fitzgerald shall be the
county site of said county.
“Said county shall he attached
to the Third congressional dis¬
trict, and to the Oconee judicial
circuit until another circuit shall
be established embracing the
present county of Irwin, in which
case it shall belong to said new
circuit, and shall be attiched fee
the Fifteenth Htate Senatorial
district.
“That all legal voters residing
in the limits of said county of
Ben Hill entitled to vote for
members of the General Assem¬
bly under the laws of Georgia
shall on the first Tuesday in Jan¬
uary 1907, elect- an ordinary, a
clerK of the superior court, a
sheriff, a coroner, a tax-collector,
a tax-receiver, a county surveyor,
a county treasurer, and three
commissioners of roads and rev¬
enues for said county, said elect¬
ion to be held at Fitzgerald, the
county site of said county.
“That the superior courts of
said county shall be held on the
first Mondays in April and Octo¬
ber of each year.
“The limits of the said county,
the congressional and senatorial
districts and the judicial circuit
to which it is attached, the time
of holding the terms of the supe¬
rior courts shall be as designated
above until changed by law-,
“Sjse. 2 . Be it further enacted,
That when this proposed amend¬
ment shall be agreed to by two
tlnrd (2-3) of the members elect¬
ed to each of the two Houses
and shall have been entered on
the Journal of each House with
the ayes and nays taken thereon.

amendment to be advertised in
at least two papers in each con-
gressional district at least two
months before the next general
election, to be held on the first
Wednesday in October, 190th

submission of the proposed elect¬

ed amendment by a majority

ed, That it shall be the duty of
the Governor to submit said
election in the following form :

said proposed shall have written
or printed on their tickets, ‘In
favor of Ratification of the
Amendment to the Constitution
Creating the County of Hen Hill,
with Fitzgerald as the County

Bjown, a negro prisoner, who
tried to end his life by hanging
in the city prison yesterday af¬
ternoon, is none the worse today
for his experience. Brown tied
one leg of his pants to a bar, the
other leg about his neck and
jumped from his cot. When
found by.a prison guard he was
limp and apparently Jifelaes, but
was revived. Brown is wanted
in Athens on the charge of
breaking a contract.

and continued to buy from time
to time the same up to the 22 nd
of August, 1905, from petitioner,
ordering in amount $189.67. A
