state further.
The rural route carriers now
leave tills place at 7 a. in., re¬
turning at I :80 p. rn., instead of
leaving at 1 p. in., and returning
at 6:30 p.m., as before. This
schedule will continue until
April 1, 3908, when they will
take tip the old schedule again.

John Harper who was tried
here and sentenced to hang for
the murder of Sheriff Keith,
came very near making his es¬
cape one night the first of this
week. Harper had sawed three
bars of his cell into and would
have made his escape in thirty
minutes had he not been de¬
tected. Harper has been re¬
moved from Cartersville jail to
Atlanta, where he will remain
until his case is finally settled.
The Supreme court will take up
his case next Monday.
SEABORN WRIGHT
FOR THE SENATE
Reported That He Will Announce
During The Week.
Rome, Ga., October 34.—It is
currently reported here that
Hon. Seaborn Wright will an
nounce for the United States
senate one day this week. He
returned to tiie city a few days
ago and since that time has had
the matter under advisement
with ins friends here.
To more than one of them he
has stated that he would make
definitely known his decision
within the next few days.
Upon his return here he found
letters from friends urging him
to say whether or not he would
become a candidate as sentiment
was beginning to take shape af¬
ter what was considered, in ef¬
fect, the announcement that
There will be a Box Supper given in the Court
House in this city on Saturday night, October 26,
1907, for the benefit of the Methodist church and
parsonage.
Everybody is cordially invited to attend and
bring boxes filled to overflowing with something
good to eat.
All donations will be gratefully accepted.

Governor Smith would not enter
the senatorial race.
It is known that Mr. Wright
has had the matter up with Gov¬
ernor Smith, and, while not def¬
initely stated, it is understood
here that he has received assur*
ance from the Governor to the
effect that the latter would nob
be a candidate, leaving the field
open for a contest between Clay
and Wright,
The announcement of Mr.
Wright may be expected before
the end of this week, if current
reports arc well founded.
