The freight-car shortage is
another sign of prosperous times.
Fusion m New York politics
neems to m«an principally con¬
fusion.
An Atlantic City man is killed
while trying to save a dog. We
refer the warning to Judge Gay
nor.
If Roosevelt would just kill
one particular elephant! But he
would not dare with Taft lead¬
ing it.
An Fnglishrnen has built an
aeroplane to carry sixteen pas¬
sengers. Their obtuaries are be¬
ing prepared.
Mr. Taft likes to enjoy nature’s
beauties. No brass bands or cav¬
alry escort to mar the pleasure of
the woods party.
The Wright brothers continue
to attract attention as prominent
Ohio men with no political as¬
pirations whatever.
It. must have affirmed Mr. Taft
a tireut deal of satisfaction to get
into a forest of trees larger in
diariiater than himself.
It is as difficult for Jeffries
and Johnson to get into fighting
trim as was for the G. O. F. to
revise the tariff downward.
That chain of hospitals twenty
miles apart which Mrs. Belmont
plans Long Island will be handy
for autornobilists and their vie
tuns. _
Willie Hoist is the only logical
candidate of the Independence
League, as the League under¬
stands logic with the $ sign blown
into it.
It will be up to Washington
and Boston to play a series of
hail games next season to see
which team can lose the most
games.
If, as Dr. Eliot contends, there
is no hell, we might just as well
make up our minds to love our
enemies instead of telling them
where to go.
Admiral Schley, who says he
is 70 and hopes to lives to be¬
come helpless, could hasten the
realization of his curious amln
tion l>v trying the prohibition
whisky now being sold.
As Mr. Ballinger ami Mr. Pu>
chot are both on record as desir¬
ing to preserve the national re¬
sources, the meeting may as
well disperse while the band
plays "Woodman, Spare that
Tree.
It. was really not. necessary for
Admiral Dewey to say that the
"American Navy is not a bluff.’
No, indeed! The brotherly love
of the Japs are evincing for us is
a breathing monument to the ex¬
act coutrary.
It will be a long time before
the government brings another
suit for libel against an honest
newspaper for it will be a long
time before the people put that
kind of a man in the White
House again.
A Virginia woman sued her
husband for divorce on the grouud
that he pestered her too much
with kisses. An Indiana woman
ran away from her husband be¬
cause lie wouldn’t kiss her. You
can never tell about women.
Gamp John B. Gordon Meets.
John B. Gordon Camp No, 50,
U. C. V., of Murray Co., Spring
Rlace, Georgia, met in the court
house, October 5, 1909, Com¬
mander B. W, Gladden, presid¬
ing.
The first business, prayer by
the Chaplain, W. It. Black, then
reading of minutes of last meet¬
ing and all communications.
The camp then discussed the
picnic, and postponed it for this
year. F. M. Kilgore reported
comrade Bramblett very low and
for all comrades to visit him.
The communication on the
Home for Aged Woman and for
the monument to the Joseph E.
Johnson, were laid over till the
next meeting.
8. L. Trimmier, delegate to
the state re-union at Athens, on
September 8 and 9, made his re¬
port and was well pleased. Said
it was one of the best state re¬
unions; all got homes and were
treated fine.
As there is some very import¬
ant business for the November
meeting, all Confederate Vete
rails are requested to meet with
the camp, and that these min¬
utes be published in the Murray
News. The camp then adjourn¬
ed to meet on the fir, t Tuesday
in November, 1909.
MRS. HEARTSIEL’S DEATH.
Mrs. Olarenee Heartsill’s death
wliidh occured Wednesday Oct.
14 caused much sorrow in this
and ajacent couonties. She was
a woman of much learning and
was possed of a splendid charac
ter. She assisted her husband in
running The Murray News which
was known at that time as the
Jimplecute. And was well up in
this profession. She was a sister
of ex editor Max Keister formtly
of this place but now of Dalton.
She had been sick for three
months. Her disease baffling the
doctors but showing every symp¬
tom of pellagra.
She leaves three bright chil¬
dren besides a mother two sisters
and three brothers to whom we
with a host of friends extend
sympathy.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to thank those who
so kindly administered to us in
the illness and death of our loved
one. May God bless each of
them is the sincere wishes of
Mrs. M. A. Keister

held at this place Saturday Oct.

L. A. Hartley. The votes stood
39 to 12 in favor of Luke Dunn.
Mr. Dunn feels greatly honor¬
ed for the high office that they

still serve the people in future
as lie lias in the past.

Nothing more contemptible,
unmanly or unwomanly and cra
ven than the everlasting sighing
for happiness. Those who
the most of it think the least
about it, But in the thinking
about and doing their duty hap
piness comes, because the
and mind are occupied with ear¬
nest thought that teaches at
thousand points the beautiful
and sublime realities of
universe.
