GORDON LEE IN THE SEVENTH
Congressman Gordon Lee was
in Marietta Wednesday and had
spent sometime at other points
in the county, Mr. Lee’s friends
are urging him to again run for
Congress and we hope to see hint
He has been in Congress just long
enough to reach the aente of use¬
fulness to his constituents, to oh
tain important committee posi¬
tions that a new man would not
get in years no matter how br j 1
limit he be—places that will re¬
dound not only to the Seventh
District’s in repute, hut also in
actual dollars in the way of ap
propriations, Mr. Lee has made
a strong impression on his Cobb
county friends, anti they do not
believe he should lay down th a
work at the very moment when
he is best prepared to'givo them
good results. Other candidates
may he as competent when years
of service have made them so,
but now none can do the work of
Mr. Lae.—Marietta News.
Hon. Gordoli Lee, our popular
and able Congressman, spent a
part of Thursday and Friday in
the city mingling with bis nu¬
merous friends.
Mr. Lee has not yet decided
whether he will be in the race
for Congress again or not. He
state#, however, that he has re¬
ceived hundreds of letters and
petitions from friends alt over,
the district urging him to make
the race, So if he does make the
race it will be entirely on ac¬
count of the pressure being bro’t
to bear upon him by his friends
who believe he can be worth
more in the field than an inex¬
perienced man.
He has done much for his dis¬
trict, as his record will show.
He has worked hard and faith
fully for the good of all the peo¬
ple, and they are loath to have
him retire until he at least fin¬
ishes up some important meas¬
ures now pending before Con
gress. He will let the public
know in due time as to what he
will do
His friends in Paulding county
are legion, and if he makes the
race he will get a large support,
as he alwayr has - Dallas New Era.
A large number of Acworth cit¬
izens lmd the pleasure Tuesday
of shaking hands and chatting
with Congressman Gordon Lee.
Mr. Lee is sewing his fourth
year in congress and lie has no!
made up his mind whether he
w ill announce for re-election or
not. However, »o much pressure
is b“ing brought to bear on him
by voters of the 7tn Cutigresssnn
*1 district that it. is generally con¬
ceded that lie will be compelled
to answer the call.
The seventh lias probaly nev¬
er had a m<>re u refill or yopttiar
congressman than Mr. Lee, ami
his friends in the vicinity of Ac
worth are legion.—Acworth Post

SUN PRANKS.
Irregularitie* For Which Science Can¬
not Altogether Account.
The sun Is generally looked upon as
a, model, of regularity which never
tails la Us duty, hut the ancient his¬
torians mention several Instances
when it failed to give forth its usual
amount of heat and light for jrariodn
varying from three hour- to several
months. Data on ihe subject have
been compiled by the Si. Louis Iteiutu
He.
According to Plutarch, the year 44
B. C. was one in which the sun was
“weak and l>ale“ fur a period approx I
mating eleven months.
The Portuguese historians record
several months of diminished sunlight
in the year 03-1 A. O. and. according
to Humboldt, this uncanny i>eriori end
ed with "strange and startling sk.v phe
nomena, such as loud atmospheric es
plosions, rifts in the vaulted canopy
of blue above and in divers other rare
and unaccountable freaks."
In the year 1001. on Fept. 20 (see
Humboldt’s "Cosmos”!, ibo sun turned
suddenly black and remained so foi
three hours and did not regain Its nor¬
mal condition for several days.
According to the fioted He!math’s
"Solar Energy.” the days of seeming
Inactivity on t*e part of the suu (the
days following tin* sudden blackening
of the great orbi were noted for a
peculiar greenish tinge and are mark
od In old Spanish. French and Italian
record* "the days of the green sun ’
as
February. IKNi A. !>.. is noted In the
annals of marvelous phenomena as a
month in which there were several
days that "the sun appeared dead and
black, like a great circular cinder float¬
ing In the sky.”
“On the last day «f February. 120(1.''
says au old Spanish writer on astron¬
omy. astrology and kindred subjects,
"the sun appeared suddenly to go out.
causing a darkness over the country
for about six hours” In 12-11 the Eu¬
ropean countries experienced another
siege of supernatural darkness, which
the superstitious writers of that time
attributed to Hod's displeasure over
the result of the great battle of Lleg
nitz.
Even today there ure certain Irregu
larltles of the sun that science cannot
altogether account for. These are the
to called sun spots—enormous dark
splotches which appear from time to
time on the solar disk and which are
supposed to have great Influence on
the atmospheric conditions of the
earth. Scientists have long studied
these phenomena, but neither their ex¬
tent nor periodicity has ever been de¬
termined.
