weather is burning up the fodder crop.
Osgood Myers spent a portion of last
week with his father and family at

Prof. Patterson, of Ducktown, Tenn.,
is conducting a writing school at this
place.
Marriage license were issued this
week for Robert Cudd to Miss Lizzie
Phillips.
Campmeeting at Murray campground

The people of this section were treat¬
ed to a regular Texas Sand Storm all
day last Monday.
Mrs. T. J. Ovbey and her younger
children have been on a visit to rela¬
tives near Dalton.
Frank Duggar and Miss Maggie Hol¬
loway were recently married by Esquire
Frank Kilgore.
Dennis Barrett, of Dalton, is in the
county on a visit to his grandfather,
Judge Dennis Johnson.

Mrs. Edward Roberts, of Dalton,

Judge Dennis Johnson returned Sat¬
urday from Atlanta where he iiad been

Messrs. Pratt, and Will Layden, of
Cassvillc, have been here on a short
visit tofriends this week.
Dr. Billy Fincher, of Atlanta, has
recently returned home from a visit to
numerous relatives and friends in this
county.

Lee Galt, of Ardmore, I. T., arrived
Tuesday evening. He left yesterday
for home. Mrs. Ora Galt and little son
returned with him.
Mr. J. L. Robinson, of this place,
hooked a fine cat fish in the Connasau
ga river a few days ago weighing 39
pounds.
The smoke-house of Mr. II. C. Eilis,
near here, was considerably damaged
by fire -one night this week. We learn
that it was the work of an incendiary,
Jerry Moore, colored, who was con¬
victed here last week of burglary and
sentenced to four years in the peniten¬
tiary was carried off yesterday.
Tom Barbour is still in this county
doing machine work. He has repaired
over fifty sewing machines in this coun¬
ty and has done the work well. Give
him a trial.
Now is the time for the wise mer¬
chant to plant an advertisement in or¬
der to catch the fall and winter trade.

week that he expected to pick from his
present crop and market two bales of
cotton by September 1 st. He has a
large crop of the fleecy staple and it is
maturing very early.

crocodile tears of grief.
We learn that some miscreant broke
into the store of our young friend, Nick
Peep'es, at Hassler Mills; one night
last week and succeeded in escaping
with a few articles of merchandise hut
minus his hat and pocket-knife.

teachers when Mr. Fricks departs.

The grand jury recommends that the
old jail property and the Staples cor¬
ner, which is owned by the county, he
sold and the proceeds be appiopriated
to building a good iron fence around
the court house. The fence question
has been worn threadbare by the grand
juries of late years but it seems that
i ur county fathers are not cognizant of
the fact, at least they pay no heed to
this wise counsel.
