The grand jury recommends that the
old jail property and the Staples cor
ner, which is owned by the county, be
sold and the proceeds be appropriated
to building a good iron fence "and
the court house. The fence question
has been worn threadbare by the grand
juries of late years but it seems that
our county fathers are not cognizant of
the fact, at least they pay no heed to
this wise counsel.

Mr. Charles E, Harmon, genera!
passenger agent ot the Western!
and Atlantic railroad, s ys that his
world’s lair information bureau is
working admirably, and says that
he is answering hundreds of let¬
ters daily, giviug desired informa¬
tion to paities who contemplate a
visit to Chicago, as to routes, rates
hotels and boarding houses. Be¬
sides the number of hotels in Chi
cago, of which ho has a list, he has
also obtained, through reliable in¬
formation, (he address of fifteen or
twenty boarding houses, which he
is furnishing to the patrons of the
Western and Atlantic rialroad
upon application.
He has issued a neat little circu¬
lar giving important world’s lair
information, which he will send to
any one upon application.
It looks now as though tho rail¬
roads had determined to maintain
the rates as named, and will have a
war ot schedules instead of a war
of rates. Mr. Harman says that
this is the best wav to accommo¬
date the people, by giving them
quick and reliable schedules and
allowing the roads to receive a liv¬
ing rate out of the world’s lair bus
in ess.
