Hon. 8am Berry, ol Dalton,, is a can¬
didate far ths Stats senate from this
district. He is one of ihe purest chris
tian gentlemen in North Georgia and is
certain to be elected.
J. A. Hall is bow editor of the Rome
Tribune and has greatly improved that
paper in every respett^ flail is brainy
and enterprising young man and makes
a complete success aa a pencil pusher.
Judge Mad.L.xe’g vote in the recent
primary in Floyd county was a high
compliment to hi* fitness for the office
which ho holds. lie received every vote
east at the election. Murray may not
give him a sniliU vote but lie is sure to
carry the county.
Some of the papers say the Atlanta
Journal has flopped and gone to the sup
port of Atkinson, or intimate as much.
Wo dou’t believe a word of it. 1 he
Journal ia made out of sterner stuff than
the ‘‘flopping” kind. Ft will never flop
t ill honestly beaten by democracy.
>S«vaR*l good speeches were made.
he*sJT.ues<U.y v n the situutioa of th e
county and in denunciation of profes
uioual witnesses. However,none of this
will amount to much unless we get th e
•fttoi'ils of the state and government to
turn their disapproved upon such mean
methods.
If John \V. Maddox is not nominated
for re-election by the democrats of this
district the best member we have ever
had will he beaten . ilis record is one
that any man should well be proud of
and we do not, think tire voters of the
seventh will fait to recognize tins fact
by au overwhelming vote.
Ex-Congrcssmau Everitt has an¬
nounced hi* caadidauv for that ollice in
itb* coming election. Everrit got in be
ior* through the doers, oi the alliance
and nearly every lover of honest meth¬
od* denounce such trickery and will put
.the stamp of disapproved on it at the
polls, as was done two years ago.
--- ■*» >♦« » ■
A third party paper. The Daltou
Economist, will appear at llaltoa next
week. It is useless to state that it will
have little to do with tho result of the
,coming election in this senatorial dis¬
trict, as all the calamity, howlers in
Christendom court overcome the great
majority of democratic votes in tho
three counties.
We have beou informed by the com
.m it tee that the resolutiouH in another
column were intend ed, in the main, to
condemn the rottenness and corruption
of Mcbsis. Hooker and Paris, "potent
witnesses” from this county. It is our
.opinion that it the mat tor was inves¬
tigated, these two gentlemen would ho
in the penitentiary for perjury.
The repeal of the per cent tax on state
banks was def ated in congress this
week by 8 majority of sixty-six votes.
Not one of the Georgia members voted
against the bill, but the northern mux
vWums were in .tie majority ami thereby
detested the proposed measure. This
bill should have passed and it the con¬
gressmen had stood squarely to the plat¬
form upon which they were elected it
would have received a Wig majority of
the votes.
